Since the duschene trade obviously didn’t include any prospects the level of Dobson, Wahlstrom or Sorokin, why Do some if you insist that’s what must be included to upgrade the top 6? No one here is “selling the farm” and going all in with this team, but a rental upgrade not requiring our top prospects is certainly possible. There is some middle ground here, not all or nothing, sheesh

Of course it's possible. But the fact that it hasn't happened yet tells us one thing; while it's possible, it isn't easy.

In fact, with a full quarter of the season left to be played, only 6 teams out of 31 are more than 7 pts out of a playoff spot and most much closer than that. Definitely not a buyer's market.

I think at this point, we need to find a signed player and use Beau as the carrot for the signed player, Hoffman or Palmieri type, rentals would be fine if we didn't have 5 guys that could walk next year, if no trade is made this would be the way to maybe find momentum

Nelson/Barzal/Eberle - I think Nelson's defensive skills can offset the bad defense of the other 2, and Barzal is surrounded by guys who can shoot the puck at minimum
Lee/Cizikas/Bailey - Lee and Bailey would recreate their Judas line with a less skilled center that can get to loose pucks, score and cause disruption
Ladd/Filppula/Beau - Beau on the right doesn't make sense, he goes to whatever side the puck is on, Ladd doesn't move so it is a line that will give rest to the other lines
Martin/Leo/Clutter - Leo in for Zeke, less offensive player, solid defensive player who has a mean streak

Fat chance they're breaking up the Cizikas line.

They probably won't... but logically if no one is brought in.. we can't have Kuhnackl, Ladd, MDC, JHS, Beau in the top 6, Cizikas has elevated his game, and he gets to feed guys like Martin and Clutter who are solid 4th line guys... Teams around the league have scouted us enough now to know that we can't sustain pressure in the O zone.

Obviously an acquisition is better than this scenario but in lieu of a pickup, we are going to struggle to get goals in a playoff series and we will spend a lot of time defending. Passing to Kuhnackl means you can double team another guy

If Lamoriello can deal Beauvillier for a player with the skillset of Hoffman that would be awesome. Staple seemed to think a 1st + Beauvillier would be too much for Hoffman. It would be cool if they could get it done without giving up Beauvillier.

Speculation has said Lou is involved in many deals. Columbus paid a very risky, ballsy price for Duchene. If Duchene re-signs in Columbus, Panarin & Bob walk and Columbus struggles next year, they could wind up giving Ottawa a very high pick. Is it any riskier than Ottawa giving up it's 1st for Duchene or Calgary giving us an unprotected 1st for Hamonic?

There's a benefit to showing patience and allowing yourselves to be outbid. We have a very long weekend ahead of us, where other players are very likely to find new homes. I don't need to make the risky, ballsy move - not with the high end futures this team has.

Columbus put themselves in a position where, if worst case scenario, they're rebuilding in 2 years and not an issue at all in the Metro. With Washington and Pittsburgh's core players in their mid-30s, letting Columbus push all-in could be very good for the Isles long-term.

Just wait. Friday night til Monday. Ride the roller coaster.

Duchene starting next to Panarin tonight, not sure if you can read anything into that but should be an interesting duo to watch for at least the next few days.

Skinner is now #1 on my wish list... man I wish we could’ve gotten him for nothing in off season. What would it take?

Could you imagine what we could’ve done Monday with the extra two 1’s we got by dumping JT at last years deadline??
