Not likely, but worst case scenario is Florida pissed off Huberdeau enough that he has a monster season and still re-signs in Calgary for below market value just to get back at Florida.

I doubt a player would hold a grudge like that that cost them financially.

and a team in the other conference.

You could always alternate Nurse and Bouch on there. IMO if we are in win now mode and Bouch is the better option, he needs to play there.

If we're in win now mode and Barrie's the best option we should keep him one more year and allow Nurse to play as much EV/PK min as possible against elite competition and as a bonus get to sign Bouchard at a cheaper contract to maximise our win-now ability.

So he would screw himself for spite?

Would prefer to keep Barrie one more year so we're not paying Bouchard stupid money in the offseason as a 65+point d-man after a year on a top-3 PP

This logic makes no sense to me. Why a team would hold back progression of one of their high draft picks for cap space would be stupid

As opposed to your logic of PP minutes being a better tool to develop a young defenceman over more even strength and PK minutes?

Victor Hedman didn't get PP time until his 5th year in the NHL. He turned out just fine on the PP.
Same with Kris Letang. Pittsburgh didnt ruin him because they had Gonchar ahead of him

I don't believe that Barrie is the best option. Bouchard has a far better shot, a better selection of shots and is at least as good of a passer. The only area that we might get weaker is in terms of SH chances against. That said he needs to grow into this role, so it's better that he gets the whole season to grow into it instead of getting thrown into the fire in the playoffs.

Stick to the litter box or we'll find out how many ways a cat can get skinned.
