Oilers draft is over, and unfortunately no defense added yet.

One week until free agency. As of today teams can start to court free agents. Have to assume the Oilers will call on Demers? Is it time to start seriously considering the offer sheet route? How about Plan B/C type options?

Wonder if the RNH to Minny for Dumba or Brodin rumour still has any legs or if that died out when the price wasn't right for one of the two teams.

It's not an option to go into next year without serious upgrades on the back end.

I wonder if the Puljujarvi pick changes things with them in potentially going after Lucic.

Well forget picks now.... A trade has to happen and Chiarelli has just over a week to do it before GMs take their summer vacation. Was hoping to wake up to some trades today but alas GMs in this league are super cowardly.

Why not? Pooch is on the right side while Looch is on the left. Adding to our right wing depth shouldn't hinder us in other areas. Pooch would also be on his ELC so don't have to worry about additional cap.

Kinda how I figured, draft the BPA at #4, and no trades.

Everyone was suspecting something big, but I just didnt see it happening this weekend.

Still have time to add through trades and FA.

It feels like we will have one legit addition and probably one 'change of scenery' or specialist addition. I don't think we will see us fielding a robust D next season.

Pou, Eberle and Yak (though Chia saying he never asked him for a trade complicates things) would be my guess for trade chips.

RNH for Brodin is a travesty. Another left hander that IMO has a lower upside than all of Sekera, Klefbom, Nurse, Davidson, and even Reinhart.

Rnh for Dumba is laughable. A bottom pairing PP specialist. Be like trading rnh to Pittsburgh for Schultz... Almost.

With deals like that I would prefer Oilers do nothing without any concerns what so ever.

Probably now that teams can talk to free agents, GMs will have a better idea shortly who they think they can sign to fill their roster needs. I think once that picture clears itself up the trades will come as GMs figure out what holes will need to be filled.

but will he get a dman of near equal value in return? unlikely.

If he trades RNH for Dumba + that will be about as bad a scenario as was imaginable.

Our only hope of acquiring a difference making Dman is to trade Eberle for Shattenkirk; then we have till next February to convince him to sign with us. If he does, this could work out.

otherwise, we are just adding another 2nd pairing guy and hope someone like Klefbom takes a major jump.

I know some people are excited today about having the Finn drop to us, but I am thoroughly depressed today. Improving the Dcorp appears to be impossible.

I don't believe Chiarelli is stupid or desperate enough to trade RNH for Dumba. If he did make a deal that bad, it would be disconcerting to say the least, so in a sense Im glad we continue to wait.. I mean that would be one of the worst deals ever. They are desperate for D but at some point you have to have some pride and internal belief... RNH was a pretty big letdown for me last season but he's still better than some here like to give him credit for.

I'll be depressed on July 10th if Chia hasn't done anything. The players drafted today won't be impact players for years so i'm not going to cry that we kept our picks. We can easily make a deal with our plethora of young players. Good on Chia to make sure he doesn't get ripped off.
