really enjoyed watching his Youtube fights, and i always rooted for him during his MMA tenure. he seemed like a really nice fellah, too, during his interviews.

sucks to see this happen at such a young age. RIP.

I've always been a huge Kimbo fan. He had a ton of haters, but by all accounts he was a good guy and his teammates always had good things to say.

Do yourself a favor and watch the documentary Dawgfight. Kimbo isn't really involved, but it's a great representation of what guys like him and Dada 5000 and those guys went through.

Just ****** news. Still remember Kimbo being that security guy on those inthevip pornos and backyard fights. He came across as a really nice dude. Sucks to see him go so young.

He was a good dude and dedicated father. Sucks for his family. His last few fights should have never been commissioned. Shame on Coker and Bellator.

Big fan of Kimbo. Say what you want about his MMA skills, but he has a huge place in MMA history. He was 100% of the reason why CBS wanted EliteXC -- the first time MMA was ever broadcast on network television in the US. I think Kimbo hype was bigger than Chuck Liddell, bigger than Georges St-Pierre. He was Brock before Brock.
I never knew about his past. Pretty crazy story going from possible NCAA recruit for football, to homeless, to fighting in the MMA and supporting his 6 kids to go to college.
First heard this before he fought James Thompson in Elite XC. 3:25 to 5:25 of the video below.

Just re-watched ... man, what a fun, sloppy, fun fight Kimbo / Thompson was. Lots of big strikes, lots of reversals while grappling. Good times. RIP, Kevin Ferguson.

Oh man, I was saying this to a few coworkers. I remember in JH/HS talking to friends about his new fights. Honestly, he may have been the person who got me interested in MMA  when he made his debut it was so hyped. I still remember when he fought that guy in the main event for that smaller MMA company and got knocked out. Sort of ended the dream until he was on TUF.

Everything I've heard is he was an extremely good guy. RIP.

I hope the rule of 3s doesn't mean a wrestler is next after a boxer and now an MMA fighter.

I still stand by that he should have gotten at least another UFC fight. Lost in the house to Roy Nelson, beats Houston Alexander, then loses to Matt Mitrione.

RIP Kimbo.. Say what you want about the guy, but he was an icon in his own right. I remember in highschool, everyone talking about Kimbo Slice fights on YouTube, and HAVING to see his mma debut, etc. Way too young at 42..

Dude forged his own path. Tough as tough can be, but from all accounts was a true family man and an absolute rags to riches story. May have not been the most talented mixed martial artist, but he was one of a kind.

Super sad news all around. I hope the UFC acknowledges this at the next event.

Was never a fan of Kimbo at first. It was mostly to do with me being an MMA snob, and following the sport since 2000 so when he came into EliteXC with all the hype it wasn't an unreasonable argument to suggest that we would get eaten alive in the UFC at the time. Still, he was marketed as someone who would destroy Fedor, and that did not sit well with me.

But I still watched.

Then he ended up on TUF and that's when I saw that he was just a straight up good dude. And to me, that's all that matters. That's when I became a fan of him.

I've seen a lot of "say what you will about his MMA skills" and yeah we could say a lot. But despite all that, knowing he was such a good guy, it made me root for him.

He was a gentle giant who loved fighting and he did it for all the right reasons.

RIP Kimbo.
