Felt like my first 9/9 in a week or so.

Was a little worried about the Yonkman one, wasn't totally sure if he ever suited up for Florida. I just remember the Panthers having a press conference to introduce their bevy of new players in 2011. Yonkman kinda stood out like a sore thumb (physically and in terms of likelihood to make the roster).

One of my better scores recently:

1712155145949.png

Chris Gratton - always found it amusing that he and Pierre Turgeon couldn't wear their signature #77 with Colorado since it was retired for Ray Bourque.

Dave Scatchard - Apparently the Bruins/Islanders agreed to trade Jason Allison for Dave Scatchard, Zdeno Chara, and the Jason Spezza pick. But when Mike Milbury asked Islanders owner Charles Wang for approval, Wang said no because he appreciated all the charity work that Scatchard had done. Milbury tried to sub out Scatchard for Bill Muckalt and the Bruins were understandably annoyed. Isles pivoted to Alexei Yashin instead. After the lockout Boston signed Scatchard but traded him a few months into a four year deal.

Troy Mallette - Back in that CBA, there was a messy process with Group I RFAs. The original team couldn't match the offer and instead the two teams had a small window to work out a trade. If they couldn't agree, then each side would present their offer/request before an arbitrator. In 1991, the Rangers signed Adam Graves from Edmonton and offered Mallette. Edmonton requested a couple prospects in Steven Rice and Louie DeBrusk. Unfortunately for them, the arbitrator wasn't exactly hockey savvy and admitted later that he didn't know how to value prospects. On paper, Mallette seemed similar to Graves. Their stats in 1990-91:

Graves: 63 GP, 21 points, 123 PIMs
Mallette: 71 GP, 22 points, 252 PIMs

Rangers GM Neil Smith had been part of the scouting staff that drafted Graves in Detroit. He correctly thought that there was some untapped offensive upside. Meanwhile Mallette would quickly become a journeyman.

Definitely a quiet heist from that era. And one of the reasons why Group I restricted free agency got folded into the more familiar Group II (with the predefined draft picks) into the following CBA.

Ugggggggh, didn't think so many people would remember Scott as a Sabre, silly me... Also, how is Stuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu Barnes at just 0.3%???? :eek2:

Also, love having 4/5 teams with completely circular logos here, only missing the Jets

Y’all know that guy who killed Hossa? Remember who he played for. .1% on that one. Also, there’s two Jonas Johanssons, goddammit, did not think that one would be an issue.

Hmm, not bad, considering the ask... Almost got all ex-VAN players, but that just shows that I had a hard time thinking of better options... :dunno:

I killed it on the first column with old school answers and then we had a lot of the same answers. Kind of surprised Lafleur was a better (less common) answer than Iggy.

Great game after 7/9 picks, then... swing and a miss on Gino Odjick, who was a QMJHLer, of course. Oh well, lastly, for 100G/Dman, surely Sami Salo and his amazing slapshot is a sure b-

Was doing pretty well until I completely shit the bed on the last column. I wanted to select the Sissons who plays for NSH but had a brain cramp and chose Scott Scissons instead of Colton. Then I chose Colton Sissons... only to find out he never played in the OHL.

Loooool, I did a dumb - Connauton never played for VAN, he got traded before his debut :banghead:

Picking Spezza for TOR/AHL is fun, though, since he only played there because of the lockout, and waaaay removed from his TOR tenure :thumbu:

When Patrick Roy retired, there was one overzealous Avs fan who was adamant that we were all idiots if we didn't realize that Philippe Sauve was going to immediately take over as their starter.

Diduck/Andrusak are burned into my memory. Due to unfortunately injuries, they were suddenly thrust into the playoffs in 2000 for Toronto against the Devils.

lol... terrible performance on the first row, but I did great on the bottom one. I literally could not think of an answer other than Eric Staal for the MIN/FLA square and gave up and chose him.

I always enjoy that the Capitals traded for Leschyshyn (with Chris Simon) despite not really having a spot for another NHL defenseman. They played him a couple games before trading him to Hartford.

Read Andy Sutton's name in a different thread yesterday and that jogged my memory for the MIN+WPG/ATL square. I'm forever annoyed with Sutton for his knee on knee hit on Jason Allison in October 2002. My big summer trade in my keeper league was for Allison and that was the beginning of the end for him.

I was about to go with Tom Fitzgerald for the NYI+FLO square then pivoted and thought Mark Fitzpatrick might be the more obscure response. But it looks like I should have stuck with my first thought.

The under 500 GP squares are always fun to come up with an obscure name. Before the 1999 Expansion Draft, the Devils gave Sergei Vyshedkevich to Atlanta to not take certain forwards.

I had a celebrity crush on Michelle Kwan way back when. One thing burned in my memory was that she dated Brad Ference in the early 2000's.

Should have gone older than Volchenkov for the Devils... I also had Rupp, Boulton and Ramage on my list, and the latter 2 would have got me my 0...

Swing and a miss on Jan Hlavac, who only managed 134 assists, and played way fewer seasons than I thought...

I had Anson Carter queued up for CAR/BOS, but I figured he'd be a high %, turns out not so much... Ditto Darren Turcotte for NSH...
