19 Years ago today was a sad day for Flyers fans, that's when Pelle Lindbergh died as a result of a car accident. He made a bad decision regarding drinking and driving and it cost him his life. It left Philly fans wondering what if, wondering if he was the goalie that would have led the Flyers to a Stanley Cup. I enjoyed watching him play and always wondered what kind of career he would have had if he hadn't died in that car accident. Any thoughts from anyone who seen him play live.

If Pelle didnt die, like Drazen Petrovich with the nets in 1993, eventually he would have returned to play in Europe. Ron Hextall was knockin' on the door around 85' and I do think The phili brass would have choosen HExy of Pelle. Pelle was a small guy who had a great glove hand. Miss seing him very much!

Hexy would not have been chosen over Pelle, and Pelle wasn't going back to Europe anytime soon.

Pelle was coming off an Vezina trophy season and lead the Flyers to the Cup Finals

In 84-85 Hextall was a back-up in Hershy.

Pelle was better than Hextall.

Also Flyers should have won the Vezina trophy three years in a row, with three different goalies.

1984-85 - Pelle Lindbergh
1985-86 - Vanbiesbrouck won, should have gone to Bob Froese (finished 2nd)
1986-87 - Ron Hextall

1985-86
Bob Froese - 31-10-3 2.41 GAA .913 sv%

John Vanbiesbrouck - 31-21-5 3.32 GAA .887 sv%

Maybe Pelle could have become what Hasek later became. Who knows. It's still tragic as hell though.

Well it wasn't as if he didn't take a big risk with his life. He wasn't exactly sober behind the wheel.
