whoooaaaaa, i know they got this new math and whatnot, but i literally had no idea that something that started in 1936 is "as old as" something that started in 1876.

That is some very interesting stuff.

A decent chunk of MLBs teams were founded in the 1960s, either in their current iteration via relocation or as expansion teams.

One would argue Randy Bass came to NPB in his prime and was the best foreign player to join the league in 1980s.

Part of the problem that makes the NPB teams leery of going after top flight MLB players, besides the lack of funds, was because of the horrible experiment the Tokyo Atoms (now the Tokyo Swallows) had when signing Joe Pepitone. Pepitone was an unprofessional asshat who went out and partied despite claiming to be hurt and missing games. The final straw came when Pepitone left the team numerous times without giving notice to his employers to deal with his divorce case hearings which caused the Atoms to terminate his contract and send him home. Ever since, any foreign player in NPB that is seen as a slacker or goof off gets branded as a Pepitone by the Japanese bosses.
so the best foreign player in this in some ways superior league was a guy who played 130 games over 6 seasons in MLB, hit a career .212/.284/.326.
this absolute prodigy then played over 600 games in the in some ways superior league he went for a .337/.418/.660 career.

ummmm.....

I would argue that Bass never got a fair shot in the states before he hit his prime.

Tuffy Rhodes was also a great player in Japan during the late 90s to mid 2000s
MLB: 225gp .224/.310/.349
Japan: 1674gp .286/.381/.551

guy went .308/.402/.583 in his age 40 season. yeah, brutal level of competition over there. AAAA guy goes over at 26 plays for 13 seasons, hit 40+ 3 times and 50+ twice. but i guess he never got a shot either

Joey Gallo hits .206 career, no one gives a shit and analytics people treat him like he's an elite bat because he hits home runs from his ass.

Tuffy Rhodes hist .224 career in MLB, he has to be AAAA type player.

How does that circle square exactly?

Well, for starters Tuffy hit a home run every 45 at bats in his MLB career. Gallo hits one every 12.75.

Uh

What the f***?

Someone please convince me that the prospects here are good. Because as much as I hate Renfroe and loved JBJ, this feels really really bad.

Hamilton's numbers last year in double a and single a + combined over 101 games are as follows: .258/.341/.419, .769 ops, 104 hits, 43 RBIs, 52 SBs, 19 doubles, 8 HRs

Binelas's numbers in rookie ball and A ball combined over 39 games are: .309/.390/.503, .973 ops, 43 hits, 29 RBIs, 11 doubles, 9 HRs

So Hamilton seems about average and Binelas looks alright-ish. Problem is that single a numbers are hard as hell to gauge.

They basically bought two prospects, #16 and #17 on MLB.com's Milwaukee Top 30 list. Binelas was just a 3rd round pick. Pure power guy. Hamilton is all about speed. Doesn't make a whole lot of sense, but it's another sign that they're planning on going into the tax this year and then dip down 2023, when they have a bunch of money come off the books.
