Reality - Canes are 0-5 against the Southeast and is not that close

Ever game against this division has been a multi goal blowout loss save the Winnipeg game. This includes games when the team was healthy, so the injuries thing is no excuse. And this now includes a blowout loss to the worst team in the Eastern Conference.

This is not a playoff team. The record right now may say otherwise, but they're not. And if the injuries don't heal up desperately soon, they will be in danger of a bottom 5 finish in the league. They are playing that bad.

Seriously, how hilarious would it be if Buffalo beat Tampa Bay in regulation tonight and the Hurricanes still held the division lead?

I don't understand why they look so lost and helpless against the very teams they will likely be fighting for a playoff berth, since the East as a whole is such a log jam.

I didn't realize that 5 cherry-picked games against four might-as-well-be random teams was the only barometer of a team's success/ability.

Relax, this team was playing quite well before injuries struck, and hopefully we can continue to after.

I'd agree if they were five games spread out evenly through the season so far, but it's the first two games of the season which the Canes clearly weren't prepared for, and then three games since the injuries started.

What sucks the most is that right before the injuries started it looked like the team really began to gel and get the chemistry we were hoping they would. If the guys can come off the IR and get back into that form soon I don't think we need to be too worried. We'll have plenty more games to fix that record.

I feel with a real preseason those first two games wouldn't have been nearly as bad, but maybe that's just me.

I agree. The Florida game was def. rust from everyone involved.

That said, 0-5 is not good and this team can't afford many more division losses because alot of teams outside are much better..

Hold up, playa.

Are we talking about Ward's three worst games of the year, plus two games where we were at the peak of our injury issues? We lose those games and it's proof that we can't beat anybody?

Buffalo *did* beat Tampa Bay in regulation tonight. Ryan Miller was amazing. Stole the game for them. So we're still in first.

The good news, only 13 games left within the division.

This thread should be entitled ... "Sit back and watch the rationalizations come flying in."

I'll bet people are still defending Rutherford. How many years in a row should we miss the playoffs before anyone admits to anything negative around the Canes or their GM?

Do you not agree that these 5 games represent Ward's roughest outings plus the worst of our injury troubles (hopefully)?

Because it's impossible that other teams came more prepared to play than others right?

Why were the Lightning and Panthers more prepared than us when we all had the same prep time? Why did the lack of a true preseason affect us more than them?

If we had a real preseason, then I assume they would have had one, too, right? So why would the longer preseason benefit only us?

We're cherry picking games and then trying to extrapolate them over an entire season.

What are we now? 8-8-1?

If I took both Ottawa games, the second Islanders game, the Toronto game and the New Jersey game, I could make the claim that we're going to win the next 20 games in a row.

yep, two playoff appearances in the past 9 years, with the budget that he gets from PK, should not be acceptable.

I'm implying that our players didn't come ready to play the first few games of the season. Wow that was sure as hell hard to figure out! Stop playing dumb, dancing around an answer for the sake of an argument.

Maybe a better time for this would be when they actually miss the playoffs this year, not while they'll leading the division. There's been a **** load of negativity from everyone while they suck and miss the playoffs. This team beat the Maple Leafs twice while they were on fire, the Sens with Karrlson and the Devils while they were the best team in hockey. That's 5 great wins so they must be the best team in hockey, right?

While the injuries are just an excuse for our recent losses I think it's a pretty good one. Our defense as a whole was already our weakest link and with almost our entire top 4 out AND one of our best goal scorers out it is kind of hard not to expect losses. People can use Ottawa as an example of a team with injuries adding up that continue to win, but IMHO it's not even comparable to our situation; Ottawa has their injuries spread out across different positions on their roster, not a gaping hole at their teams biggest weakness...

Why is the fact that our players "didn't come ready to play the first few games of the season" and excuses for getting blown out twice? Why are we discounting games that we "didn't come ready to play?"

All my vCash says the Canes miss the playoffs this year.
