----------------------------------------

Hello again,

Missed me? Doesn't matter because, like it or not, the draft simulator is now officially back for the 2024 NHL draft!

Link to the simulator

The simulator is up-to-date with the central scouting's midterm rankings for the 2024 draft. The simulator itself is pretty much the same right now, I haven't worked on it since last year. I received many good suggestions in last year's thread (and in private messages) so I'll see what I can do about some of those this season but, realistically, some of those suggestions would require a major overhaul and probably would require a lot more time to put in place.

Here are the things I'd like to work on for this year's edition:
- The ability to trade picks (using the trade picks value chart as reference). That was suggested by a few people and I don't think it would take toooooo much time to implement (hopefully).
- Logos for each team to aid the visuals a little because it looks quite bland right now.
- The top of the draft seems be less clear than last year's so I will probably adjust the randomness to allow players near the top to drop more often, especially on higher settings.

Enjoy!

Tankathon has us at #14, I am assuming that's where we should be with this too then
I don't mind changing it. It's all over the place right now (depending on the website) but a late pick seemed to be the most common result based on this.

I can try tankathon if you think it's more accurate!

Edit: Actually, I did this without reading the trade conditions (that I forgot), and I think you're right. I'll adjust it in a bit.

Is Tankathon not taking into account traded picks? Oh right, in my head I traded the wrong pick.

Yeah, Ottawa should get Boston's pick (unless we dumb luck our way into the Conference Finals anyway) and we keep ours.

We still have our own pick.. We should have the 14th slot with where we are in the standings, unless I'm missing something.

The draft picks are from puckpedia. Both puckpedia and capfriendly have us low in the first round (28th and 30th), but based on the trade details, I think @Frk It is correct and we should be higher. The issue is that tankathon only has the first 2 rounds... I'm not sure what to do with that for now. I'll keep looking for the best solution.

Feel free to suggest a website if you think they have the best draft order (with the full 7 rounds).

- I don’t have any words and I know you don’t want to hear them. I understand your anger, your frustration, your sadness. Everything you’re feeling – I get it. This isn’t the draft slot we imagined, and certainly not the one we wanted. Thank you for being there the entire way.
(I just took capfriendly's and swapped ottawa and detroit's picks in the first, 14 and 30. Seems fine to me now.)

- I ran the names from the central scouting list into some code to lowercase the names so that it doesn't feel like the simulator is screaming at you like "AHHHHHH YOUVE DRAFTED EISERMAN, COLE - 6' 0" - 197 - LEFT WING AND PROCYSZYN, ETHAN - 6' 2" - 189 - CENTER AND BERNIER, ALEXIS - 6' 1" - 189 - DEFENSEMAN AND..."

Homer pick. I think he might be available around where we're going to pick. Looked realgud at WJC.

I know less to nothing about these picks, so my only metric for picking them is their names.

Self explanatory

79 (3). Mustard, John - 6' 0" - 184 - Center

we finally get Iginla! I remember him as much bigger though, when I pined for him to fill that power-forward-shaped hole in Detroit's lineup for many, many years

I took Nygard, Pulkinnen, Fischer, Walton, Satan, Sikora, and Hilton. My favs are the 6:07 Satan who must be a psycho and Charlie Hilton cause I’m still in love with Paris

I set it to max randomness because I couldn't find much on any of these prospects at this point. Tried to go skill early and the fill out the draft card with size / goaltending and a d-man late.
