Just like Toronto, 1 that shouldnt go in wasnt the reason he lost. The team was. Just as it was in this series. Toronto can’t come to grips with that fact either
Well ya 1 is the difference come playoff time unfortunately. Regular season sure but playoffs everything is magnified and those goals can’t go in

Not a surprise in context of the scoreboard, but way too much is being put on Andersen in here.

The first goal, you want that back because it’s entirely on the goalie to have a line on the puck when it’s moving freely around the zone like that. His vision was off and his positioning was also off if he couldn’t see it. So yes, soft goal.

Second goal wasn’t as clear-cut his fault as is being portrayed. You want him holding his post there. If the puck is thrown at his feet, it shouldn’t be a matter of the next forward having a clear uncontested lane to jam at it. This is the one that people are putting entirely on Andersen while looking the other way at what transpired defensively.

3 and 4 were not stoppable shots with anything less than pure luck.

It wasn’t a banner game for him, but people are completely overlooking the score effects of this game. The Canes got that 3-1 lead and their possession game disappeared. Even at that, they had a couple of glorious chances to put it away for good. Those went by the wayside. The defensive shell cracked under constant pressure, and we ended up with Staal of all people in the penalty box. Even at that, they still had a shot to tie and couldn’t bury the shot they needed to save the season. These are the things a team does to blow a playoff game, and they were far more influential on the outcome than goaltending on either side.

In a way, it would be easier to stomach if it was just Andersen. However, the team defense wasn’t there tonight. They’re up 3-1 in the 2nd period and giving up odd man rushes? The forecheck was non-existent in the 3rd. Rangers scored the GWG 5v5.

Anyway, another entertaining season of Canes hockey. Realistically, this is a one run in 7-10 years group. Next season is another opportunity. Try, try again.

It’s not just age…

Staal having the most 5v5 TOI this game and insisting on playing Martinook in the top six is mind boggling. I’d like to see Daniels gone.
Staal is a washed up has been. That Game 5 goal was the last ounce of competitive play he had left

That was one of the worst games I’ve ever seen the Canes play with regard to getting the puck out of the zone and it caught up to them.

Goal 1 was the obvious turnover by Orlov.

Goal 4, Aho stopped a puck that was heading out of the zone and tried to possess it, but it bounced off his stick to a Ranger. Rangers maintained possession and scored.

3rd period they just took the foot off the gas. Goal 2 for the Rangers you could just feel the air leave the room. It felt inevitable from that point on. A big part of that’s on Freddie, but the team folded as well. Lame.

Kooch wasnt good. Folks here act like these coaches don’t see these players in practice to see how mechanics are going

Kooch played one game the entire playoffs after saving our butts by stepping up big during the regular season. Instead, we’re relying on a guy that

A: Has a history of choking in the playoffs
B: Was coming off a very long break in the regular season.
C. Had some very, very weak goals allowed in the series already

It’s not all on Freddie, but once again, we’re ending the postseason because our goalie was worse than the opposing teams. And unlike a lot of previous years, the opposing goaltender wasn’t playing out of his mind.

Not really. We withstood 82 games to make it to the dance to get a chance at a cup and didn’t come close. 2nd round exit is not a fun season for this team.

Yes, but is there space to play him at C?

Even if they don’t move Jarvis or Necas, they have Aho, Kuznetsov, Staal, Kotkaniemi, and Drury to play C.

I think you work on Kuznetsov’s fitness this offseason and either move or buy out Kotkaniemi.

I don't think there was a problem with Kuznetsov's fitness. The coach barely played him despite him being tied for 2nd in goal scoring (all with players with a lot more ice time and PP time) in the playoffs.

The most frustrating thing is the fact that Kuznetsov clearly is still a big moment player with the skill to make things happen offensively. The fact that he had 4 goals in this playoffs entirely on the 4th line and almost no PP time speaks to his offensive ability. You'd hope, at some point, when things weren't going well for the team, that head coach might mix things up -- put him with Svechnikov or Necas who was buzzing tonight. But nope, as someone else said, Brind'Amour makes no adjustments.

I don't understand why you're trading chances with a team and going end to end with 15 minutes left ina 3-1 game 6.

It's like Rod has one f***ing style he plays in all situations. Do the ol' Swiss IIHF strategy when they play Canada. Line 4 up on the Blueline and make them dump it in and go retrieve

And if they enter your zone with 15 minutes left, Why do you have to play man to man? Play tight box and limit chances. Chatfield is alone against Kreider the last goal and he's not even lifting his stick.

2 posts early in 3rd hurt.

2 grade A chances in slot that Igor saved early in 3rd hurt.

Freddy stumbling (yet again) on 1st goal for them hurt.

Freddy not being quick enough to cover on their 2nd goal hurt.

Really thought we had them. Was ready for a game 7 win in NY. Sigh.
