If an NHL team owns the rights to a 25 year old player who cleared waivers at the beginning of the season in October... and that NHL team trades that player to another NHL team in January...

Does that player make the jump from AHL team to AHL team? Or do they need to clear waivers first before they can be assigned to their new AHL team?

simply reports to the team or affiliate that acquired said player, once you go through waiver claims at the beginning of each season that's it... it's likely that the affiliate who loses the claimed player, doesn't get the right to reclaim same player if the new affiliate elects to, and it's usually 72 hours after the transaction, whether it's waivers or an outright trade, or that's negotiable as to when the player reports or faces suspension from the affiliate who acquires him.

They can go from AHL team to AHL team without issue.

To add to the answers above. Once a player clears waivers he is not subject to waivers again that season unless he is called up to the NHL and plays in a total of 10 games or spends a total of 30 days on a NHL roster. At that point the player would have to pass through waivers again to be sent back down. The 10 games and 30 days are accumulative and can be from multiple call ups.
