Did Stewart also, sometimes, maybe, spit tobacco juice in the eyes of goaltenders? A Puckstruck investigation leads back to Paddy Moran, Newsy Lalonde, and a night at Montreal's Mount Royal Arena in 1921 when a former U.S. president looked on as Montreal and Toronto played a sour-tempered game on bad ice.

Admirable source work, kudos!

I had assumed that tobacco-chewing during the game was a myth because it seemed so impractical. But Jackie Forbes confirms that Newsy Lalonde did that.

Also, I've come across the term "streamlined" hockey (1930s/1940s), but I think I didn't entirely understood what it was referring to. I did not know it also refers to backchecking by the forwards.
