We did this last summer, lets do it again.

I am going to start with some guidelines.

To be considered a prospect in these polls they must be under 26 (as of July 1st, 2015) and have fewer than 80 games of NHL experience (including playoffs).

I will set polls to expire in 48 hours. After 48 hours a winner shall be declared unless the winner has less than a 10 vote lead. At which point there will be a 24-hour poll that pits against each other anyone within 5 votes of the leader. There will not be multiple runoff-polls so a win by 1 in a run-off poll will be final. After a winner is declared the next poll will be put up at my earliest convenience.

The current plan is vote on all 37 eligible prospects, but if participation dissipates it may stop sooner.

List of eligible prospects:
Agostino, Ken
Andersson, Rasmus
Arnold, Bill
Bennett, Sam
Bruce, Rily
Carroll, Austin

It was training-camp only impressions from both so I get that the team wanted more time to see him play/earn his spot in pro hockey.

But just watching the 2 of them playing in camp one skated harder and brought the puck to the net much more than the other. Wasn't surprised to see him nearly crack 20 goals in the AHL where as the other never put up half that scoring pace from 23-26.

I really don't think it would be ridiculous now with hindsight to say that Hathaway was the better hockey player last season and could have brought more to that spot.

It is absolutely ridiculous. Training camp for vets is not the same as training camp for rookies, I'm not sure why that is so difficult for people to understand. Vets work on conditioning and certain areas where kids have to go balls out in order to try and win a spot, often a youngster "looks better" in camp but it sure as hell doesn't mean the youngster is a better player. Hathaway was good enough to earn an NHL deal last year, but he certainly was not playing an NHL level game like Bollig was.

This blind hate Bollig gets is extremely irritating, it's like people can''t grasp that there is still a need for tougher players in the league. They are so brainwashed by this fighting is bad ******** that they just automatically dump on any player willing to drop the mitts.

I agree that we didn't have enough information to say that Hathaway was more deserving than Bollig. However, I wouldn't call the Bollig hate "blind". He is a bad NHLer. I'm fine with guys who can fight; Lance Bouma is a solid bottom six player; Tim Jackman played pretty well for the Flames as a "tough guy" bottom sixer. There are guys all over the place who are "tough" grinders who can play hockey reasonably well, but Bollig isn't one of them.

Bollig at worst is on par with Jackman. Not sure why Bouma and his 5 career fights was brought up though.

I just don't really care what form the toughness comes in, I guess. I probably shouldn't have included Bouma for this discussion, but if a guy just goes around taking the body rather than dropping the gloves, that's fine by me.

Which Bollig does, he was 3rd in hits among forwards even though he played only 62 games. We have an extremely non-physical group of forwards, so Bollig has more value than he might on other teams because he provides an element this team is sorely lacking. We had only 6 forwards with 100 hots last year and one of those was Glencross.

Well I've been voting Smith for a while now, although I think Culkin is next for me, he had a great first pro season before the injury.

Bollig was not an NHL vet he had 1 NHL season coming into this one and then was let go for a late 3rd round pick. He of all people needed to bust his ass for a spot.

Bollig's game wasn't at the current NHL level which stresses effective size his defensive game was awful and left the Flames completely unable to break out of the zone on his side as well as become victimized by passes through the high slot and to his point man when he was on the ice. He was out scored by 26 games of Ferland who you find very over-rated.

There's no blind hate for Bollig these are all things that happened to just him and no-one else at nearly the same pace.

Hathaway has 5 fights in 80 games of pro hockey after college there's nothing I dislike about that, it shows he can have a physical presence while still playing the puck.

I agree the game hasn't changed to a point where fighting is not a factor or tough players aren't needed, but it has changed to where tough players have to keep up with the speed of the games and you are better off getting guys who can hit and block shots at a higher rate even if they fight about half as often. This is why Ferland is seen as so valuable and why Hathaway should be higher on this list than Kenny, as they both show they can bring that type of physical game.

Smith should have been higher, I think he's going to leap up this ranking next year.
I would love to see a 3rd line of Carroll & Smith on the wings :yo:

For all intents and purposes Bollig was a veteran heading into camp. The Flames didn't trade a 3rd round pick for him to have him fight for a job.n And say what you want about Bollig he was one of the hardest working players all year.
