Because conversations don't happen when one side is always shooting for the negative and is unable to accept the other side. It's tiring to have the same arguments about the same **** for literally no reason.

No it doesn’t happen when both sides entrench into a radical black or white approach to everything. Saying you can’t critique anything in preseason is just as wrong as is using preseason for a sky is falling rant. Granted it’s usually the negative nellies that wind up compelling everyone to go 180 degrees arguing against the over the top negativity.

I could tell you haven't watched all of the games.

We have not played solid Devils hockey like we saw most of last season
Last night was the best roster we have iced all preseason, and we still played guys who won't be near the team for half the game. Our vets are clearly going half speed and not taking chances against other teams guys who are fighting for roster spots. Looking at rosters we haven't iced a stronger team than our opponent once, with last night being the closest.

You and a few others here are hugely overreacting to our preseason record while taking none of the context into consideration. I know I also posted the 2017 preseason standings for you previously when you were complaining about our record, which you conveniently ignored, so you complaining about a lack of engagement in discussions is pretty rich.

If you can’t figure out why the stakes *might* be lower in the preseason, and whether that may affect performance, I don’t know what to tell you.

And I’ve watched every game, save for some time missed in switching between games on the split squad night. So shove it.

Can we wait until the regular season actually starts happening before panicing about it?

Plus context is needed, would we be 0-2 because of bad goaltending, bad finishing or just getting outplayed and outworked? If it’s the latter I’d be concerned. If it’s one of the other two I’d be annoyed but not looking for a panic button. I mean people forget we were .500 for basically 2/3 of the season last year, the hot start and hot finish got us in but that doesn’t mean we didn’t have long lull stretches.

People just have to stop assuming they aren’t going to come out working when the games matter and the rosters are full based on preseason.

Okay...I wonder what type of drugs the marketing department over there in Philly were on when they thought THIS was a good idea? :tvhappy:

On a serious note...
What is the over/under for whatever poor soul wearing this Gritty suit getting his ass kicked before the game? ... heck, every game?

I mean there is absolutely no way in hell that he walks through that crowd and someone DOESN'T swing at him, right?

I'll say this about last night:
Palms/Nico/Hall were men among boys at time. They are going to be a great line for a long time to come.
Smith is just great.
Vats is absolutely awesome in two of the zones and a big dice roll in the D zone. He was one of our best players all night, but there were some times... yikes.
Mueller was ok. Obviously Gryba is pretty terrible - Yak made many mistakes, but showed some good skills and maybe he'll come around.
Wanted to see a bit more from McLeod and JQ, but I expect they'll come around.
Noesen looked a little lost at times - but he shows such great flashes that I'm not worried about him.

Everyone else was meh and there were times we looked terribly flat.

Hall Hischier Palmieri
Johansson Zacha Bratt
Coleman Zajac Wood/Noesen
JQ Boyle Wood/Noesen

Stafford
Seney

I like that forward lineup. I am just afraid of a lack of quality depth in case we face some top 6 injuries.

Yes I was kidding you with this garbage. Choleric sentiments after watching a preseason game while consuming a bottle of Bordeaux. The Bordeaux was better than the game. Although actually the sentiments seemed just at the time.

The Devils have maybe approached this preseason differently than last year. But in the sober light of morning I still have no reason to believe this team is ready to start the season hot, yet there is still time. Maybe they get serious when they head to Switzerland.

I don't like the cut of your jib.

Earlier in this thread, you said that the only thing Bratt brings to the team is Style points?

Get the hell out of here with that garbage. :thumbd:

MarJo and Bratt played solid there on the 2nd line. But they do need someone to shoot the damn puck.

I'm disappointed in both of them because they are so damned soft. I love all facets of Bratt's game except for his inability to physically get involved. Mojo is so damn talented, but he's perfectly exasperating because you see such great potential but it rarely materializes into a goal, and he just doesn't have a 'motor' - always in cruise control.

Bratt will improve with age. Mojo is just going to be my Viktor Kozlov for the next few years.

I agree that Bratt needs to be more aggressive with getting after the puck and putting a body on an opponent(even if it's not much of an impact).

My only guess is that it's Preseason and he'll start being a bit more physical when the games count. At least that's what I'm hoping.

Aside from that, there's nothing to dislike about his game.

Agree with all above re- mojo, bratt.
Ive liked Mcleods game all preaseson, I dunno maybe im the only one. last night his line wasnt able to gain much possesion (in general the team was poor in that regard 5v5 ) which hindered his offensive chances, but I liked alot of what he did. He neutralized lias Andersson all night, made some great effort plays defensively and on the backcheck, and was just a general pain in the a** on the forecheck, hampering the rags breakout. He been playing fast and aggresive all pre, and I like it. Not sure if hes quite there yet, but im encouraged.
