Really disappointed we didn't trade up to get Forsberg once he fell out of the top 10.
why? we could have traded michalek (a washed up 3rd liner) for him
This Michalek for Forsberg thing has been thrown around quite a bit. Was there a legit offer from Washington for Michalek or is this pure speculation?

We have a tough stretch ahead and will be hard pressed to keep pace. Most difficult are the next 4 games playing the Blues twice, once in an afternoon game, the Preds of course next up, and the Wings..

The Senators’ next 10 opponents have a combined record of 113-49-17. Six of the games are on the road. The stretch also includes three pairs of back-to-back games.
Nothing about it is legit. It's nothing but wishful thinking and HF armchair GMing.
It was for erat. Michalek and erat at the time. Very comparable.

We won't win with a good line being used vs low competition with little ice-time.
I love the kid line more than the next guy but what's the point of keeping them together if they're gonna get little ice-time anyway and they aren't facing tough competition? While other lines who need more help and are being leaned on more aren't working?
I would love to see other line combos work but keeping that line together means Michalek in the top 6 somewhere which is an immediate no-no.
It'll be a good measuring stick
Thankfully we absolutely own Hitchcock
My gut says we will either win this game or will lose this game
I'm talking about trade rumors, not player value.
It's not a legit rumor, regardless of how comparable the players are/were. You can add guys like Hemsky or Stafford to that list too, but it's not like Edmonton or Buffalo somehow dropped the ball. They probably didn't even know Forsberg was available.
Trades are often done in a vacuum. It's not a 29-team, league-wide auction for players sometimes... only a few teams know of player's availability, and often, the worst trades are just that: guys who weren't shopped to all teams, only a select few. The Joe Thornton trade comes to mind immediately as an example of this (league GMs were shocked when Boston traded him, they didn't even know he was on the block), but there are plenty of others out there too.
Very likely, the Caps only contacted a handful of teams when they made that trade.
good thing he's back
