Carlo Colaiacovo was sent to Grand Rapids for a conditioning stint. Looks like Detroit got him.

conditioning assignments mean he ius still on 23 man roster, so no, not a good indicator.

Not saying it won't be Detroit. In the last 15 min, in an attempt to be the 1st to break the story, I have seen Us, Ottawa, Detroit, Edmonton, Philly, Anaheim, and Chicago all sign him.

It's not like we don't have a decent pool of dmen. I'm not surprised or upset in the least bit. Eckholm will be stepping up to the big leagues next year.

The problem is that we have quantity over quality. Ekholm needs at least another full season, still struggles with consistency. Ellis is a decent prospect, but looks more like a specialist, and the clock is ticking on Blum. Outside of that...foss, bitetto, aronson, valentine, COR...it's all depth.

As I've been saying, a top four d-man has to be just as high on the shopping list as a top six forward. You're starting to see the effects of playing too many minutes on Josi's defensive game, and Bartley isn't a long term answer at number 4.

ever since Trotz has said this, everyone on here has been recycling his words on the matter. Before, everyone thought he was going to be better than Blum. I think Bartley IS a legit dman who is coming of that age where dman breakout. I can see Batley sticking, he plays a very simple game. Either way, Id love to get a glimpse of this crystal ball everyone seems to be looking through.

I think Bartley is a solid third pairing defenseman, but he's not exactly young. I haven't heard Trotz make that statement, it's my own observation. Has he been better than Blum\Hannan with Klein? Of course. Is he a number 4 dman on a contending team that relies heavily on its defense and goaltending, to make up for being a rotten puck possession team(statistically)? I don't think so.

He just turned 25 last month! Do you want the next Bobby Orr at 18?

Jon Blum is 24, Shea Weber is 27.5, Hannan is 34, Ellis is the kid at 22.

dont get me wrong Im not claiming Bartley to be some future #1 dman, but he is young and he is still a prospect (with a smaller window of opportunity). Ever heard of Matt Read anyone? He is 24-25 and he just came out of his shell. Happens all the time. I think the fact that Trotz has plugged him right into the 2nd pairing and he hasn't been scratched, moved around, sent down says a lot about how good he already is. IDK about his future with us, but Bartley is an NHL dman.

I think he's similar stylistically to Klein, but you may be underrating Klein. I would put KK on a level with Dan Hamhuis now, easily. I'm not sure there's many better #3 d-men in the league. I see Bartley as a solid number 5, maybe the eventual parter for Ellis on the third pair.
I think this is correct and not an insult to Bartley.

He'll be a typical number 5 with abilities to be in the top for when needed.
