Wetcoaster said:Pro sports has had a zero tolerance policy on gambling running back to the infamous Black Sox scandal where the 1919 World series was allegedly fixed. Judge Kenesaw Mountain Landis was appointed Commissioner to clean up the mess and although the players were cleared by a sympathetic Grand Jury Landis banned eight players. He would ban a number of other players when it was discovered that the bribery, corruption and gambling was much deeper than just the Black Sox. The zero tolerance on gambling in baseball continues as the Pete Rose ban shows.
Basic rule - you gamble on your sport and you are gone. It has to do with integrity of the competition. I feel empathy for Don Gallinger but his punishment was just.
