I know most were against Eichel but since sources said that Zibanejad is wanting something in the ballpark of 10M AAV I saw several people if that’s what Mika will cost they’d rather trade for Eichel. Curious to see the conensus. In my opinion, if we do our due diligence and believe that Eichel will return to the player he was before the injury, I’d rather make the move for Eichel and trade off Zibanejad.

Zibanejad at 10mil is terrible.
Eichel at 10 mil is bad.

the difference is the term. Eichel at 10M for 5 more years might hold that value for the remaining term.

Zib at 10M for likely 7 or 8 years, will be an over pay in the 6,7, and 8th years.

The only thing that breaks the tie for me is that: we can be out from under the Eichel contract before it gets bad.

You’re taking away what we’d give up for Eichel but aren’t adding what we’d get for Zibanejad

With one year remaining I can't imagine it would be even close.

Plus my Eichel projection is probably conservative.

I also don't see how we have any evidence at all that Zibanejad will age poorly.

If he does, it'll likely be because of lingering injuries, which make him an easy LTIR candidate.

Apologies if this is too much math, but that basically leaves the Rangers with $15 million or less to divvy up between half-a-dozen players, including 2022 RFAs Kaapo Kakko and Vitali Kravtsov.

What does that mean for their potential interest in Buffalo Sabres center Jack Eichel? A person familiar with the situation told the USA TODAY Network that the Rangers believe it's doable to squeeze him in while also paying Fox and Zibanejad, but it would mean filling the rest of the roster with entry-level contract players and cheap free agents.

With Buffalo refusing to give in on their asking price and Drury standing firm on his stance not to include his very best young players, the chances of the Rangers dropping out of the race are increasing by the day. Signing Nemeth for multiple years is a small step in that direction, with a good chance a forward will be added in the coming days.

The Rangers' preference is to keep Zibanejad and add to their depth down the middle. The dream scenario was teaming him up with Eichel, not being forced to choose one or the other. It was never part of the plan to surrender major assets for the Sabres' captain if it meant parting ways with their leading goal-scorer from the past four seasons.

NY Rangers to sign Patrik Nemeth to contract in NHL free agency

Vince's article today. Obviously there's so many variables in there: what Adams wants, what the rest of the league would give him, whether Eichel's neck really is made of popsicle sticks and glue, whether Mika really would hold the line on asking for a monster contract or not.

The above is amusing because the source is basically admitting that if NYR got Eichel and Zibanejad that they'd be trashing the rest of the roster.

Not to mention that fact that 30-40% of our potential ELC contributors would be gone in said Eichel deal.

Lesser of two evils? Maybe whats behind door #3 is the way to be?
Ryan Strome

Seriously, why not? Let's see What Gallant Can DoTM with him. People are so eager to see What Gallant Can DoTM with others.

It's D+4 for Chytil. It's put up or shut up time, 21 yrs old notwithstanding.

Maybe Strome emerges as a 1C and Chytil as a 2C under Gallant. Stranger shit has happened. You go with that as your C stack, that might be enough, since we're overloaded on the wings.

Don't sign Eichel. Dump Zib at the deadline for a pair of seconds and a third :sarcasm: or rent him.
