Apparently, I have the maturity of a 9-year-old, but please try to have fun with this admittedly childish question and poll. The poll is unrelated to the thread title. Please post your top 10 songs ever.

The toughest one yet. I simply had to leave out classical, jazz, Piaf/Sinatra/Nat King Cole etc, and concentrate on the so called popular music.

In no order:

Al Stewart - "Year of the Cat"
A pop masterpiece. Schmalz? AOR? I don't care.

Focus - "Hocus Pocus"
That riff by Jan Akkerman...

Duran Duran - "Save a Prayer"
1980s is not my favourite decade of music (even though I mostly grew up then), but this is a true pop gem.

Dr. John - "Big Chief"
Let this be an example of New Orleans music, which I love dearly.

Deep Purple - "This Time Around/Owed to G"
Tommy Bolin's riff in the latter part of the song slays me every time. The first song part is very beautiful too.

Metallica - "Creeping Death"
A hair above MoP for me.

The Beatles - "A Day in the Life"
The best song by the best band ever. Simply perfect song.

Little Richard - "Long Tall Sally"
Just over two minutes of rock 'n' roll perfection.

Howlin' Wolf - "Smokestack Lightning"
Who needs more than one chord for a great song. One of the biggest/most influental voices ever.

Toots and the Maytals - "Funky Kingston"
Could have been "Israelites" by Desmond Dekker or "So Jah Seh" by Bob Marley, but this is the most joyous reggae song ever for me.
