I’m not saying he can’t get better but he’s not a two way C.

Are those this years numbers? If so way to small a sample size, he was pretty elite both ways last year.

At draft time it was unclear who the #1 pick should be so the 2nd pick was super valuable. The ceiling on Laine was considered to be ridiculously high at the time.
I think Matthews is the consensus #1 now but I also don't think he has lived up to Leaf fan's hopes.
I don't think Laine is even #2 anymore.

You are absolutely correct, as soon as Dubois became a Winnipeg Jet he is #2 . Soon to be #1 damnit .

No one is saying he's Ryan O'Reilly, but his combination of scoring/size/defense is better than anyone we currently have.

Idk how good he is defensively really

Torts system was one of the best. really limiting quality chances against last season, so some of that bleeds into PLD's baseline stats

however from what i've seen, from analysts who try to isolate him from team play he seems to be average in terms of defense.
