With roughly 15-17 games left, and not much separation in the standings in the east for the final wild card spot, wondering HFboards thoughts on whose going to claim the last spot, I thought it would have been DET, but their recent 7 game slide has them potentially not making it.

WILDCARD:
1. Tampa Bay: Lightnin:g 76 Points, 66GP
2. New York Islanders: 72 Points, 65GP
3. Detroit Redwings: 72 Points, 66 GP

5. Buffalo Sabers: 69 Points, 67GP
6. New Jersey Devils: 68 points, 66GP
7. Pittsburgh Penguins: 67points, 67GP.

EDIT: As of April 5th, 2024.

METRO:
3. Flyers: 83 points, 76GP

WILDCARD:
1. Lightning: 93 points, 76GP
2.. Islanders: 83 points 76GP

I'm hoping Detroit and Buffalo are the two to make it. After Tampa owned the Rangers last night for the 2nd and 3rd periods, I don't want to see them in the playoffs.

When was the last time a seller (Washington) somehow made the playoffs? They traded away all their ufa to be but somehow can easily still make playoffs
first thought that came to mind was the blues in 2019- but all they did was Michael Del Zotto for a 6th. Then i thought of the Hamburgler run in 2015, but Ottawa literally did nothing that trade deadline

I would really enjoy seeing Detroit in the post season again. Unfortunately it's not looking great lately.

Buffalo, if you believe in being “due”. They are due.
I was at the Sabre game last night. They look hungry and fast. The addition of Byram was huge! The islanders could not keep up with the sabres. Goaltending was also impressive. Hoping to see them in the playoffs. Fans deserve something. Youngest team in the league and still rank #1 prospect pool.

I think Tampa and Buffalo will nab the final two WC spots, because Buffalo's remaining schedule is relatively easy.

Have the Ottawa fans finally given up? They were really convincing explaining away their early season failures.

I hope they’re ready to see pictures of wake boarding cottagers on Instagram in a couple months!

Tampa looks much improved with their new additions. They were exactly what they needed and both guys are playing for a new contract on top of the playoff push. The top guys and experience is still there so I like their chances.

And it’d be a darn shame if Buffalo don’t get in. Honestly, this team has been playing like a playoff team for a couple months now (~100 pts pace over the last 29 games). They’re checking well, fast enough and heavy enough. They beat good teams and when they lose it’s not a bad loss. Only thing missing is the bigger winning streak, but even if they just keep this up they can actually get in.

Detroit has really blown it with this 7 game losing streak which has been ugly; all regulation losses, only 12 goals scored while letting up 36 goals. Yeah, they played the Islanders and Vegas tough, but there’s some real stinkers in there.

Still would like to see them persevere a bit and still make it, as well as Buffalo for some fresh young blood. Sometimes it’s hard to realize that the last time Buffalo made the playoffs, it was just a few months after the first Crosby concussion.

Yeah, it’s only been 8 years since Detroit played a playoff game, but I like seeing them there and it’s shame they’ve crumbled away what was looking like a possible strong hold on the top wildcard/7 seed.

Islanders pass Flyers for 3rd place in division, Tampa and Buffalo/NJ take wild card spots.
