I met Ray Bourque a couple years ago at one of his son's high school games, and he seemed to be in a bad modd, he was trying to get all the autographs done as quickly as possible and shove everyone aside.

Years ago my family was in Las Vegas and the Indiana Pacers basketball team happened to be staying in the same hotel as us (didn't know why...no Las Vegas basketball team). Anyway, as they were leaving boarding their bus, my youngest brother who was probably 6-7 at the time, had a basketball that he wanted signed. Reggie Miller was walking with Mark Jackson, and my brother walked alongside the two asking for Reggie to sign his ball. R. Miller did not even glance over in my brothers direction. My brother continued asking, and the two ball players acted like he wasn't even there or they couldn't hear him. It was absolutely disgusting to have to witness that. Sorry if this post doesn't fit with the thread.

There are alot of great stories in this thread but no one has bonding experiences with players like mcphee.mcphee said:The way that a lot of 'fans' meet players, accosting them in parking lots, demanding autographs, interrupting personal conversations, leads me to believe that players should have a thread for biggest idiot fans that have approached them.
Have normal conversations at urinals, like me. I've also urinated beside Bob Gainey and Murray Wilson.
Most likely because he was coaching at Cushing (not just a spectator) and at every rink he went to during those few seasons, it was the same thing. I used to coach at Lawrence (which is also my alma mater) and one day Ray almost ran me over in his red BMW since he was trying to get out of there so damn fast.acr said:I met Ray Bourque a couple years ago at one of his son's high school games, and he seemed to be in a bad modd, he was trying to get all the autographs done as quickly as possible and shove everyone aside.
Your not going to drive him to the airport are you??Aki Fan said:Sean O'Donnell is pretty cool. Met him through a friend of mine that is his buddy. Helped him and his wife move into their first pad in Boston. Hung out again with in Vegas last summer. Down to earth kind of guy.

I'll do it by the team they were on when I saw them and just do the positives/negatives.
Boston-
Cool guys:
Brian Rolston- absolutely awesome, met him at training camp and he'd always stop and talk with me from that point on
Martin Lapointe
Patrice Bergeron- even now when I see him, he's very willing to stop and chat or sign a few things
Joe Thornton- saw my little cousin ogling him and stopped to chat with her and sign a few things
PJ Stock- just an all-around great guy, especially with kids.
*******s:
Steve Shields- just an ass with a head that's too big for his ability
Andy Hilbert- another big-egoed ass
Colorado-
good guys:
Adam Deadmarsh- damn cool guy
Peter Forsberg- more than willing to stop and chat
Chris Drury- nice guy, very stuck on himself.
*******s:
Patrick Roy- the only man to ever get me pissed to the point where I wanted to kick him in the junk.
NY Rangers:
most of the team was pretty good and would stop and chat. I saw some of the guys while I was walking to my train and stopped to talk.
*******s:
Dan Blackburn. The only one I can remember, but I wanted to kill him because he was such a *******. I ended up telling him off because a friend I met up with wanted his autograph and he kept signing on another player in the photo and he was being a ******** about it, but he played fairly well that night.
LA Kings/Manchester Monarchs
Again, most of the guys were awesome. My favorites were Joe Rullier, Kip Brennan, and Yanick Lehoux. This season, I've added on a few more-- Garon (signed me an 8x10 that said "Theo Sucks") and Milam.
Random players:
Rick DiPietro- biggest ******* I've ever met, outside of Patrick Roy.
Eric Staal- *****.
I'm sure I'll come up with a few more later.
Badger Bob said:Jean Beliveau is the distinguished gentleman he was always considered. He carries himself with dignity, seems genuinely humbled by his accomplishments and the history of the game and his place in it. For all the talk about Gretzky, this man was the game's finest ambassador. It always puzzled me why Maurice Richard was more lionized.

Bob, I don't think he's any less popular. Richard just represented something different to the population of Quebec. A francophone could give you a more heartfelt description, but Richard sort of was a symbol of someone who would stand up to anything and do things his way and if you didn't like it....... He became a symbol of sociological change in Quebec. I'm generalizing and I'm not qualified to be more detailled and I'd bore you if I did. Beliveau may be the most respected indivual I can think of in sports. I can't think of anyone who carries themselves with his class and dignity. I hear local sportscasters interview him get giddy and almost unprofessional afterwards because of the presence of the guy. Times change and athletes are magnified too much, so I guess if he came along today he might be perceived differently. I'm not a guy into hero worship or holding athletes up as role models to my kids, but Beliveau is just in a class apart. If you're young and don't know much about him, I suggest you learn.
