Rosters and Ratings: Player ratings for NHL14

You're basing your numbers on BAGM? Player growth in BAGM is terribly flawed.
This sentence in my OP wasn't a dead giveaway or anything ...
The scale is mainly for BAGM based on how players progress in NHL 13
So instead of trying to reduce the flaws through what I can control (the rosters), I should use EA's rosters or base my rosters on EA's Year 0 ratings which exacerbates the flaws? Seems logical ...

Wow, I never thought about player ratings that way. Great post :handclap:
Thanks :) I've actually been putting a ton of research into my rosters for NHL 14. If you've noticed that my Dynasty updates usually go dormant just after my last season ended or just before my new season is about to begin, it's because I've been simulating seasons using EA's rosters to collect data, collecting data from NHL.com and other sources (for advanced statistics), creating algorithms for specific attributes and OVR ratings based on statistical data and EA's ratings for attributes that can't be reasonably quantified through statistical data. So every time I finish a season in my dynasty, I simulate a season with my data collection league, which usually burns a couple of days because I'm on PS3 and we all know how slow BAGM sims on PS3

Next year, assuming EA doesn't change much, I'm hoping it'll translate into a much better dynasty.

The Canucks franchise forwards really need to be nerfed a few points next year. Same with Hamhuis and Edler, they're not worthy of 88 OVR.

Thats one of the best i´ve seen around here GJ. Krug, Hamilton and Bartkowski are maybe a little too high, but the forward rankings are very solid.

Why are people trying to guess at what players' overalls will be? Just go through every player (if you have the time) and tweak each particular attribute to what you feel is realistic and be done with it. Whatever the overall number comes out to, it comes out to. That's what I've always done.

Why? This series DESPERATELY needs player seperation. Any player feels the same as Crosby in this game. NBA 2k has beautiful seperation. You ALWAYS have to watch out for the Lebrons, Kobe's etc but in NHL you can just treat ovechkin like everyone else because they basically are the same.

Now only way this game actually has working ratings is if top chl players start off at mid 70s. So guys like jones mackinnon should already be something like 76 ovr coming out of the draft because let's face it those guys are much better than half the league already. Why make us wait for a roster update after they have played 9 games a month into the season so they get bumped from their 62 ovrs to 78+.

Top end chl players can go into the high 70s but most players are in the low 60s. For AHL players top out mis 70s as some of the players in the ahl are top prospects stuck behind depth. The rest end up in the mid-high 60s.

The bottom NHLers should be worse than the top chlers as guys like mackinnon drouin jones Barkov will be better than them come 1st game regular season next season. However they should be on par/a bit better than older top players in the chl. So for example a fringe NHLer who has a secure spot on a 4th line should be about a 70-72 ovr. A top ahl player that isn't really a prospect anymore so 25+ should be 68-70 ovr

Oh and fix the potentials. 3 star yellow should too out if you get lucky at 76ish ovr with the average topping out around 73/74. 3.5 could have a max out of 79 with the average being 75/76
