Honestly, I think the biggest issue with Hainsey in Carolina and in Winnipeg before that are largely related to the number of minutes that he was asked to play. He is a 16-18 mpg defenseman playing 18-22 mpg and his game would suffer after too much usage. With the Pens, I don't see him getting those kinds of minutes on a regular basis and I believe you will see his game improve once he gets integrated into the team flow.

Good luck to Ron and hope the second becomes highly successful....

Pittsburgh's 2nd will be awfully close to a 3rd. I understand why Carolina wanted more than Pitt's 3rd, and I guess Pitt saw no need to play hardball there.

urgency prob had something to do with it.

Letang is day-to-day
Schultz is day-to-day
Maatta just had surgery and is done for the regular season
Daley just had surgery and is done for the regular season

I love this. late 1sts are basically a 2nd and early 2nds are basically a 1st. There are people here who would trade 28th OV for 33nd OV.

id actually like that tactic trading down like if you have the 27th OV trade it for the 34th OV and the 65th OV.

in the month leading up to the deadline last year, the penguins were 8-5-1

in the past month this year, the penguins are 8-3-3

so your memory isnt really that great

If you think they "look" in any sort the way they did last year, I'm afraid I've got some bad news for you.

I stated their record is good, but in no way are they rolling 4 productive, fast, puck possessing lines right now or for that matter, during any of this current season.

They don't ask how. They just ask how many.

It's a hard league to replace talent, but if you draft and develop well it shouldn't be an issue. The fact that you've been unable to do that points to incompetent leadership and perhaps not being a destination where high-profile contributors would want to stay for the long term. TBH it's probably about time for a house cleaning to get that whole group back on track. Start at the top and work your way down, IMO.

This point may also apply to replacing Hainsey, I don't really know the Jets org that well.

Well if it wasn't for Morrissey, Enstrom would be our only competent LHD. And even he is having a very down year. Management issues have been discussed ten fold on our board. Just ask the mod Gin what he thinks about it. It's kinda hysterical when you think about it.

This is a real problem on this board. The overrating of Washington, Columbus and NYR all based on regular season NHL games.:shakehead

A bigger problem on this board (like the guy you quoted) is people saying what they want to be true instead of what they really believe to be true. I guess it's human nature.

I think it's a pretty good trade for the Penguins, they add much needed depth on D and I don't think they care much about a pick with the core of their roster being in their prime.

I have always had the opinion that Hainsey was a fairly slow skater by nhl standards so this trade is intriguing.

What the ****, forget the trade...Kristo is still around??

Could have been in the NHL (as a fringe player probably) if he didn't go the college route.

If they can get another first (even if they can't), they should use these picks to trade up as high in the first as they can. They already have a deep pool, getting a high end forward would be awesome.

That's what I'm hoping for. They need as much high end skill as possible, so trade up as high as you can go, or take riskier, high potential this this year

And there are people that think the 28th pick is closer to 1st overall than it is to 33rd....

Almost no statistal difference in success rate between 28 and 33... this is where luck plays a bigger role in success than your evaluation skills do

That said... there's always someone that thinks they know something you dont... someone willing to trade up to play their hunch

28 is more valuable than 33... but likelihood of either pick giving you a better player than hainsey is less than 50%

Most these picks fail... if you want a chance to succeed you need as many tries as you can get. But most of these picks will fail
