Pierre Gervais has a 2nd book coming in November with Mathias Brunet (French and English editions, same as first book)

No word yet if there will be an english translation as was the case with his first book.

There was a lot of controversy with the first book, but it apparently sold very well so a sequel is not at all that surprising. He likely isn’t doing himself any favors with the Habs organization but it’s doubtful he cares by this point.

Google translate:

After the resounding success of his first book Au coeur du locker room, Pierre Gervais will once again share other stories that marked his 35 years with the Montreal Canadiens.

Written with the journalist and author Mathias Brunet, the new book, the writing of which is quite advanced, will be called “Pierre Gervais in extension” and should be published in November.

Listen to the interview with Alain Crête with Pierre Gervais who talks about a second volume of stories and anecdotes on the microphone of Paul Arcand.

“I sat down with Mathias to see if there was material for a second book and indeed we had lots and lots of stuff still to write. It's not reheated, it's not stretching the sauce, it's not material that we had downgraded, it's all new material that I think people will have a lot of fun with. to read."
Pierre Gervais

Note that the successful author and former manager of the Habs equipment will also be a collaborator during the new genre of Sports Amateurs evenings, on Friday evenings, on the Cogeco Media network.

that's nice, how did you guys meet?
When the Hurricanes relocated from Hartford they moved into the Greensboro Coliseum I think 1998, maybe earlier. Anyways my friend and I drove from Virginia to attend the game and we arrived around 1 PM, well before puck drop.
So, I get the crazy idea to walk up to the doors of the Coliseum and damn it...they were not locked. We walked into the building and got to the doors that opened to look down to the ice. There were several Hab players down at ice level so we walked down. I speak fluent French and I immediately got everyone's attention because of my ability to speak French. Alain Vigneault, Stephane Quintal, Patrice Brisebois all greeted me. Yvon Pedneault over hears me speaking French and he walks up to me, asking what my back ground was and how a French Canadian kid ended up in NC. That's when I met Pierre Gervais and Bobby Boulanger whom I became very good friends with. When I went to Montreal a few years later they brought me into the locker room and I met the boys. Good memories.

Didn't his first book pretty much shit on everyone ?
Not at all, geez. He did have some comments on PK's annoying habits in the locker room, on Patches as a bad person, and most especially on Ducharme's way of coaching, and that last gave a few inside looks about that Cup run which led to the contract extension to DD and its consequences in the locker room afterward, but the rest of the book is quite nice about the players.

That helps explain how you ended up with so many NHL player sticks!

My dad was from Gaspe, I was born in La Malbaie. When I was 8 my dad decided that driving a truck for Irving's wasn't going to be a longterm career so he moved us to the states. I joined the US Navy and served near NC during that time. Been a die hard Habs fan since 1968!

He trashed Cammalleri good. Loved the book, I like juicy stuff.

I never understood why people revered Gervais so much. He did a job, a pretty mindless job at that, for 30-some years. The end.

I have no respect for people that go and spread private stuff to the public eye like that.

I'm just as curious as anyone else about what goes on in that room, but I'd never pay money to this guy sharing private info.

Interesting to see so many different perspectives on this guy’s career retrospective stories.

Personally, I don’t think he’s divulging anything libellous or defamatory and certainly not private or secret. He should be allowed and not judged for recounting his personal stories. That said, I understand why others see it differently.

That's a great story. I like seeing that hockey people can still be so approachable.

Strange that a book gets so much attention for doing what podcasts have been doing for years.

I have been inside the Habs locker room countless times in Carolina. I would show up to the morning skate and get escorted to the locker room by security. Some really cool interactions with some amazing players.

Lol. So let me get this straight. You show up early to a game decades ago and meet some of the guys. You go again, are remembered and the guys are like hey its "Tyson". And it goes from there? And as players and coaches change, each generation meets "Tyson" and therefore you are passed down through the Ages ?

This keeps getting better.. And I think its fantastic that this could happen. Best / most memorable interactions ?

Bobby Boulanger, Gervais's assistant and I became really good friends. I had his cell number and we would speak a few times a month. When the Habs had a morning skate I would show up at security with my friend (known on habsfans.com as Carbo21) and I would get escorted to the Habs locker room to mingle with the players.
Some of the players I got to know were Gino Odgick, Mike Komisarek, Alex Kovalev, Sheldon Souray, Doug Gilmour and I spoke to just about every player from that era. Really good memories!

Depends of your idea of private info. Like, he did not reveal things on private levels such as "this guys had a different girl on the road every city", or "This guy was a pothead every morning in the practice day" etc, if you want things like that you have to rewatch Lance et Compte :)
