Preseason officially kicks off on Thursday with the prospects camp starting and then one week later with the main camp.

Have at 'er

The Pittsburgh Penguins have invited 57 players to their 2022-23 training camp, it was announced today by general manager Ron Hextall.
The training camp roster built by Hextall and his staff includes 30 forwards, 21 defensemen and six goaltenders. Training camp opens on Thursday, September 22 at the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex.
Head coach Mike Sullivan's roster includes 23 players who skated in at least one game with Pittsburgh last season. Familiar faces on this year's training camp roster include two-time NHL All Stars Tristan Jarry and Jake Guentzel, as well as forwards Bryan Rust and Rickard Rakell, who both signed six-year contract extensions with Pittsburgh this summer.
Captain Sidney Crosby and alternate captains Evgeni Malkin and Kris Letang return for their 17th season as teammates, the most among any trio in NHL history.
The Penguins have added several newcomers this season, including defenseman Jeff Petry and forward Ryan Poehling who were acquired from Montreal in July; 22-year old defenseman Ty Smith; and defenseman Jan Rutta, a back-to-back Stanley Cup champion with Tampa Bay in 2020 and '21.
Also attending Pittsburgh's training camp are Penguins prospects Sam Poulin and Nathan Legare, Pittsburgh's top two picks from the 2019 NHL Draft, as well as defenseman Owen Pickering, the Penguins' first round choice at this year's 2022 Draft.
One week prior, 25 players will attend Pittsburgh's rookie camp beginning on Thursday, September 15. The rookie camp roster is made up of 13 forwards, nine defensemen and three goaltenders.
Attending the Penguins' rookie camp are recently signed free agent forwards Corey Andonovski, Jordan Frasca and Ty Glover, defensemen Jack St. Ivany and Colin Swoyer, and goaltender Taylor Gauthier. 2022 Penguins draft picks Pickering and Nolan Collins will also be in attendance. Twenty-three of the 25 rookie camp attendees will remain in Pittsburgh to take part in the Penguins' NHL training camp.
The Penguins open the 2022-23 regular season with their home opener on October 13 against the Arizona Coyotes. Single game tickets for the 2022-23 season are on sale now at www.pittsburghpenguins.com. In addition, full, half and quarter season plans are available starting as low as $40 a seat per game. Is Letang in town yet or is he still hanging out with his side girl Montreal?
Letang is working out in Montreal. Zucker reportedly was working out and has recently been spotted on vacation.

Malkin and Kapanen were both skating with the group at UPMC but took time off to go to the US Open this past weekend. Looks like Kappy is back but Malkin was with his family, so might take an extra day or two.

Are these open to the public? And, if so, are there big crowds? I like seeing these guys at ice level and it's been a while.

I just want one prospect to wreck havoc for once. Just create anarchy and give Sullivan no choice but to start them in the lineup.

I'm just a guy with crazy dreams.

You mean like Marino did a mere three years ago? :naughty:

If you never give prospects a chance beyond playing 6 mins with Simon and ZAR, you never have to worry about having to start them.

I'll be curious to see those height/weight updates once camp begins and players show up for weigh-ins and physicals, because I'm hoping Pickering's not still only 180 lbs. after a summer of working out.

Rumor has it he left his wife for the leg press machine, which was last seen in Montreal.
It's possible he strays to Pittsburgh leg press machines soon though. Whatever's the newest model perhaps.

Letang would never use a peasant machine. He is too advanced.

You mean to tell me the 18 year old Pickering hasn't put on 35lbs of lean muscle mass in the two months since he's been drafted?

Yes, open to the public. But no set schedule. If they skate, it's usually around 10am at the Lemieux Complex.

Honestly, they may not have many more with camp approaching.

Say what you will but I think my plan of taking lots of caffeine, listening to Supercharger, and then popping grey market workout supplements might be more realistic.

I'm not worried about Pickering's weight at all. He's not sniffing the NHL for 3 years and he's got plenty of time to put on weight.

That said, just wait until you see what Pettersson weighs in at and all the dietary & training advice he's going to get from the folks here in this forum!
