LOS ANGELES - A few thoughts after a late Wednesday night in Anaheim:

Jack Capuano noted that as word got to the Islanders about an hour before game time that Ducks stars Ryan Getzlaf and Corey Perry were out with the flu, this could have been a worrisome development.

"We knew they'd play even harder without those guys," Capuano said. That was true, even though it took 30 minutes to be so.

The Islanders played a forceful game over the first half, getting pucks on Jason LaBarbera and keeping the Ducks from crashing Jaroslav Halak's net. John Tavares' first goal was a result of simply throwing rubber on an untested goaltender, and the Isles held a 19-6 shot edge when Thomas Hickey went to the penalty box at 7:21 of the second.

So is Staple projecting the worry on Cappy, or was Caps honestly more worried about facing Anaheim without Perry & Getzlaf? If it is the later then Capuano really is out of his mind.

"OMG! We have to play against the 1982 NY Islanders! OMG! OMG! OMG They are minus Potvin, Bossy, Trottier, Smith, both Sutters, Gillies, and Bourne! That's even MORE SCARY!"

Really, really, really stupid if that is the thinking here...

We have too many quick, defensively oriented forwards to have this horrible a penalty kill. It is clearly a coaching problem. It probably has something to do with the fact that we sit back & give the opposition all the room in the world to do whatever they want.

Grabner will help, but he was relatively healthy all year last year & we were one of the worst PK teams in the league.

maybe staple should write an article "lack of 10 game win streaks really hurting isles in standings" after this and last nights PK.
