Following last night's game in St. Louis, fans learned that long-time Blues' favorite Pavol Demitra had been traded to the San Jose Sharks in exchange for Daniel Alfredsson. Unfortunately for Demitra, the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim were once again on hand to spoil the winger's recent legacy in St. Louis.
When last the two teams met, the Ducks handled the much-favored Blues surprisingly well in the 2003-04 Western Conference Finals. Last night, the Ducks' success against the Blues continued, as Sean Burke stopped 16 of 17 shots en route to a 2-1 win at the Savvis Center.
Given the fact that last night's matchup featured two rival powerhouses, it was surprising to see that there were less than 18,000 in attendance at the Savvis Center, which boasts a 21,000-seat capacity. Are fans still sore over the lockout? Perhaps. Or perhaps hockey has simply been overtaken by the World Series of Poker in terms of national importance.
The Ducks next matchup tonight is against the San Jose Sharks, whose lineup features Peter Forsberg, Scott Niedermayer, and, of course, Pavol Demitra.
