As it should be. Flames have been clear they don’t intend to trade him. But if you want to offer a young top line centre I’m sure he’d listen.

he's not getting traded. it's so hard to find players like him. you don't trade them unless they ask for it.

Great player, but the lack of term is scary. He'll be in a position to sign a $9 mil 1 year deal via the qualifying offer to become a 2023 UFA, if a team doesn't want to undercut him by filing for arbitration. That's a ton of leverage for a significant deal.

I'll play along.

Value wise this is as much as I'd offer from Canucks.

9th overall
Podkolzin
Rathbone
2022 2nd round pick

* Canucks would have to make other trades or buyouts to make the cap work*

Thats basically:

- top 10 pick
- Canucks best F prospect who plays a very similar style as Tkachuk
-Canucks best D prospect who has shown loads of potential in his limited showing
- 2nd round pick in a deep draft

I'll fall over laughing if Calgary trades Tkachuk and gets a bigger haul than Buffalo does for Eichel. And I feel for Buffalo fans - it's a great hockey city, but Kim Pegulla is the worst. Granted, Eichel's health concerns are maybe a factor, but Tkachuk getting a bigger return would be wild.

You had your chance in 2016.

Joking, but if there was a trade I wouldn't want to see him 8 times a year.

He's a guy where I'm not sure is worth it, but as a general rule, I wish NHL GMs worked more like NBA GMs and actually made some big trades every now and then, instead of either rentals or "here's a 4th round pick for your 6th defenseman."

NBA GMs can also do that because generally every 3 years they get a chance at snagging top 10 talents in the league (if you're a preferred destination); and if you're not, you always have to swing for the fences because the stars you draft won't stay there past the length of time they need to stay there.
