Depends on the per year cap hit. Adams has definite 4th line value and as a PK, he was damn good. I have no problems with him staying as long as the numbers are where they should be for his role.

Exactly this, If he's getting 4th line mins and rookies are not getting scratched because of him then its all good.

I don't get the hate by so many fans for Adams. That guy made 0.7M last year and that is perfectly fine for what he brings to the table. Anything under 1M or slightly over is a pretty good deal for one of the better PK forwards in the league. He also seems to be a pretty good leader on and off the ice.

Ever since he became one of the big leaders in the room, we've done nothing in the playoffs. I'm sure it's just coincidence though.

Well, I guess the Pens(09) and Canes(06) were just extremly lucky to win the cup with such a big cancer in the locker room, right?

The hate is really a cumulative thing. We have a very stale bottom 6 and it appears we are just going to bring everyone back. We need some new blood in the bottom 6. It's time for a change and Adams is very replaceable. Knowing that Tanner Glass will be the other winger on that 4th line means we will get to watch the 4th line hemmed into the d zone every night again. It's time for a change.

He doesn't make much, but doesn't do anything helpful either. He's the equivalent of buying a beat up, 1984 firebird to sit in your backyard. Why buy something useless for the sole reason it is cheap?

He is our worst 5v5 forward. Over the last 3 years, 38% of the 5v5 goals scored while he's on the ice are for the Pens. 62% are for the opposition.

How do you win games with players like that bleeding goals against during the highest % of their total icetime (5v5)?

No player is good enough on the PK to offset this huge negative during 5v5 play. DJ is so much of a better alternative to Adams, it's not even a close call. The Pens already have a worthless "PK specialist" they can't get rid of in Glass. Certainly don't need another.

He wasn't nearly as big a piece in the leadership department then.

In an off-season of laughable decisions, keeping the coaching staff intact, keeping the goaltender and bringing back the same leadership group are all three evenly ridiculous.

Our meltdowns have been happening since 2010.

But you can go on continuing to believe in Craig Adams' leadership. Leaders are only useful when they lead to victory.

No reason for this to have its own thread. It's speculation, and from a crappy source. Add it to the Summer Signing and Trades thread.
