OUCH! Winnipeg destroys Montreal 56-10! (Was out for the evening so I recorded the game - fortunately I screwed up and recorded ESPN and not ESPN2. Would still have been nice and seen the Willy TD toss though - see below.) The only Montreal highlight of the evening - TOUCHDOWN @MTLAlouettes - BJ Cunningham hauls in that TD toss from @Drew_Willy - makes the score 10-7 Winnipeg. The Blue Bombers then scored the next 46 points! SIGH!

FC Buffalo @FCBuffalo -
Recap - Seven-match unbeaten run ends in Pittsburgh, sets up massive Erie County Derby clash on Friday at home.

Sneak Snapped - Loss Sets Up Desperation Derby - June 24, 2018 - Buffalo FC Website.

FC Buffalo’s postseason hopes are still alive, but if there was any margin for error left in the NPSL East Division’s playoff race, it’s gone along with the club’s seven-match unbeaten run. The Blitzers were unable to recover from a disjointed first half on Sunday at Highmark Stadium in Pittsburgh, where Fort Pitt Regiment handed the visitors a 3-1 defeat.

Goalkeeper Jeremy Figler made a number of outstanding saves as FCB looked to outlast FPR’s first half charge, but the Regiment took a 1-0 lead off a 20th minute set piece. FCB went level with a classy team goal, as Kendell McFayden made his mark believe a trademark burst down the right flank was coming only to sweep a pass around the defense to Akean Shackleford. The Jamaican didn’t miss with his sixth goal of the season and 13th as a Blitzer, pulling to within three of McFayden’s team record 16 goals.

The wide open first half continued with a 32nd minute goal from the Regiment, and the halftime deficit seemed to inspire FCB. Keane McIvor nearly put the Wolves level within 35 seconds of the match’s restart. Despite several chances for the visitors, it was FPR who would net the game’s final goal to salt away the three points.

FCB’s best hopes for making the playoffs start with a defeat of Erie in our final league home game of the season on Friday. Admission is $8 at the door, Pre-Sale is $7. (LaxSabre - see link below for purchase advance tickets. Hoping to attend the match myself. Go FC Buffalo!) The Commodores drew Rochester on Sunday and are three points ahead of FCB with a match-in-hand.

Erie takes an early lead with a shot that Figs only gets a piece of en route to 1-0, 12’
GOAL! 1-0 Commodores! Great play with Opuko fizzing the ball to Simpson who flicked it round the corner to Martinez, great finish by Martinez 18 yards out!
12': Goal,
@Erie_Commodores, and it's a pretty one. Kwame Opoku found Simpson's feet in the box, and his first-time layoff found Fernando Martinez, who smacked with his left into the right upper-90. Figler may have gotten a piece of it. 1-0.

GOAL! 2-0 Commodores! Opoku cuts in from the right, lays it off to Simpson who pulls it back to Philpot who guides it into the corner from 8 yards out!
22': Erie dominating possession and they've struck for a second. This time it's Cam Philpot, hat-trick hero in the last meeting, who pokes past Figler after a keen square ball from Simpson. Not an ideal start for FCB, down 2-0.

HT: FCB 0-2 Erie. Another early hole after an uninspiring first 45 minutes. Plenty left on the clock but boys need to strike often.
Half-Time - Commodores lead 2-0! Great first half from the boys!
Half: 2-0,
@Erie_Commodores lead @FCBuffalo. Wolves have dug themselves a deep hole, getting pushed around in almost every facet. Coaches on field discussing how to respond. Expect Chris Walter to rile the side up at halftime. He hates losing the physical and effort battles.

One sub at the break as FCB aims to dig out of 2-0 hole: McFayden for Wasson.
46': Interesting change for FCB at the break, as Kendell McFayden replaces Sammy Wasson, dropping Troy Brady back to the wing. We'll see if the Shackleford-McFayden partnership can bring some life.

McFayden nearly chips the keeper but hits the field goal post above the cross bar.
FCB Sub - Boughton for Winkel. 54’ now - still down 2-0.
54': Gary Boughton, who scored in the last home match, enters for Winkel, who didn't look right health-wise. Andy Bennett about to come on for Erie, replacing attacking midfielder Martinez. Not a like-for-like.

McFayden heads the ball off the raised hand of an Erie defender but no call.
Goal kick. FCB down 2 but pressing well.
57': Nice ball in from deep by Chris Walter hits McFayden's head - then off Andy Bennett's hand - but the center official either didn't see it or didn't think it warranted a penalty. FCB incensed. Still 2-0, Erie. Unlucky.

McIvor picks up a yellow for dissent. Erie up 2-0, 65’ .
65': Shackleford works to win the ball back in a dangerous spot from Erie's Reid, then he serves across to McFayden's head, but he can't direct it on target. McIvor getting frustrated with referees, sees yellow. He's been demonstrative.

FCB sub: Wilson for Brady, 67’ Yellow to Shackleford for a wayward slide tackle.
67': Desperation time for FCB, as Troy Brady comes off for Isaiah Wilson and Wolves go to three in the back. Austin Stout now a third center mid. Shackleford sees yellow for bringing Dos Santos down from behind. Erie's No. 11 has spent a lot of time on the turf tonight.

McIvor gets his jersey tugged on a break at midfield. Yellow to Solomon, who caught some McIvor arm before hitting the turf himself. Erie 2-0, 72’
Yellow to Erie's Austin Solomon, who gets the worst of the collision with McIvor. Boughton and Walter both have words with the center official, and now Erie coach Dale White has his say. Erie subs Alatorre on for Dos Santos. 2-0, Erie, 72'.

A horrible back pass ends up in the back of our net. 3-0 with 17 mins to play.
A nightmare at All-High in front of a terrific crowd.

GOAL! 3-0 Commodores! @FCBuffalo defender slips the ball through to Simpson who slots it past the keeper!
74': That'll put this to bed. A soft back pass from FCB's Robert Williamson is chased down and poked past Figler by Jack Simpson, who's added a marker of his own to two assists. Clear MOTM for him. @Erie_Commodores 3-0.

It’s 4-0 Erie as the defense abandons Figler after an outlandish save.
Nightmare might have been too nice a term. 78’

GOAL! 4-0 Commodores! The Glaswegian Magician burst down the wing with frightening pace, whips the ball back stick where Alatorre forces the keeper to make a save but he picks up the second of the night via the rebound!
77': 4-0, Erie. Substitute Jacob Alatorre gets on the scoresheet after Figler's brilliant initial stop on a header is nodded home from a tight angle. Craig Quinn created that fire Erie. We'll see how FCB conduct themselves over last 12' of this frustrating affair.

FT: FCB 0-4 Erie. There are words, but we’d rather not. Thank you so much for your support, #Buffalo.
Final - FC Buffalo 0 Commodores 4 - HUGE three points on the road!!!
Final: 4-0 - Erie lambasts FC Buffalo in front of nice crowd at All-High. Commodores have wrested control back of this rivalry by sweeping this year, potting a quartet in each. Wolves aren't eliminated from playoff contention yet, but they'll need help.

How is the fan turnout for the games? Do they chant and stuff? There is a team in Detroit that sounds similar and apparently the games are a total blast.

Don't have a average attendence number but they had 750 last Friday for the match vs Erie. I've been to four matches the last four years (one match per year - wish I could attend more) and average attendence for each match was probably half that. (Although one of those matches was an exhibition match played against a team from Canada and another match was played in a downpour - attendence for that one was around 100.)

Yes the team has a supporters group called the "The Situation Room" (@TSRBuffalo) -
FC Buffalo's supporters group is known as "The Situation Room"; named after Wolf Blitzer's CNN news program. Their goal is to create an atmosphere that is the loudest and most inclusive of any fan base in the City of Buffalo.

They do chant/sing throughout the matches - attend away matches - always watch other matches at the soccer pub here "Mes Que". They seem to be a nice bunch. (I don't sit near them though - I like to talk soccer etc while watching the matches and the drums are a tad too loud to do so.)

Ahh Detroit City - they were FC Buffalo biggest rivial for a number of years playing in the Great Lakes Division then the Great Lakes-East Division. Both teams even play for one of those "Derby" cups with AFC Cleveland. "Supporters of FC Buffalo, Detroit City and AFC Cleveland formed the Rust Belt Derby modeled after the Cascadia Cup. The winner of the Derby is based on the head to head record of the Midwestern Conference clubs during regular season NPSL matches. Cleveland won the inaugural Rust Belt Derby on June 23, 2012 following a 1–1 draw with Detroit.

"Unfortunately" a couple of years ago, the league expanded with teams in Rochester/Syracuse etc and the NPSL decided to move Buffalo to a different division thus ending the yearly two-match series between the teams. Sorta wish FC Buffalo would dump one of their exhibition matches they play vs Canadian teams or local colleges and play Detroit City once again.

FC Buffalo has two more matches left this season. An away match against the Great Binghamton Football Club Thunder this Saturday - 6:05 pm ET (hopefully they not only win but score more than two goals against the worst team in the division whose allowed 61 goals-while scoring just 8-in 11 division matches.) and the home exhibition finale against the North Mississauga Soccer Club - Tuesday-7:35 pm ET.

Should FC Buffalo win (and they better win) against GBFC, they will be in third place in the division with 20 points and could finish there depending on results of the final matches for Fort Pitt Regiment (19 points) and Rochester Lancers (18 points). Cleveland SC and Erie Commodores will be representing the Midwest Region Division in the NPSL playoffs. Both teams have 24 points on the season with one match remaining for each team.

Division Update - FC Buffalo will only have to watch one other match in their quest for third place as the Rochester Lancers host Fort Pitt Regiment at 5:00 pm ET on Saturday. Good News - A Buffalo win and a Rochester/Fort Pitt draw would have Buffalo tied with Fort Pitt Regiment for third place with 20 points each. Rochester finishes in fifth place with 19 points. Bad News - Fort Pitt has a 6 goal advantage in the first tiebreaker - goal differential - so Buffalo would have to win their match by 6 goals or more - which is possible - to get third place. (See that only 2-0 win at home vs GBFC somewhat hurts Buffalo here.) We also have a battle for first place on Saturday as Cleveland SC will be playing at Erie Commodores - 7:05 pm ET. Winner of course takes the division as both teams have 24 points. Should the two teams draw - Cleveland SC will win the division as they are four goals up on Erie Commodores in the goal differential tiebreaker.

Note: The home finale vs North Mississauga Soccer Club is a makeup match - it was supposed to have been played on April 15. The home match (like it was to have been in April) will be played at Sweet Home High School in Amherst, New York - just down the road from the University Of Buffalo's South Campus. Tickets are at $7 in advance - $8 at the gate. Come out and support your local professional soccer team in its final match of the 2018 season.

Could Detroit City Football Club (DCFC) make it to the finals?

I say theres a 100% chance of that NOT happening as they didn't make the playoffs. They finished the season with a 5-4-3 record - 18 points - which was placed them in fourth place in the Midwest-Great Lakes Division. AFC Arbor finished in first place with 29 points and Grand Rapids FC finished in second place with 23 points - both clubs made the Midwest Region Playoffs. FC Columbus finished in third place with 20 points - 2 points ahead of Detroit City FC. Based on those standings results - they were probably eliminated a couple of weeks ago.

Like FC Buffalo they hosted an international opponent on Tuesday night - like FC Buffalo their opponent comes from the country of one of the hosts of the 2026 FIFA World Cup - unlike FC Buffalo - its the other country though. Detroit City FC hosted Club Necaxa of Aguascalientes, México. Based on the tweets it read like it was a great match with Club Necaxa winning 2-1 with the winning goal (which made the score 2-0) being a made penalty kick in the 86 min. Detroit City FC scored in the same minute to make the score 2-1. Attendence was a sellout - 7,449 - which was their second largest crowd ever for a match at Keyworth Stadium. Unlike FC Buffalo whose soccer playing days in 2018 as a team ended on Tuesday night - Detroit City FC has one more match to play - an international friendly against Frosinone Calcio 1928 (?) an Italian club that plays in Serie A. The match will be played at Keyworth Stadium on July 31.

FC Buffalo captain Kendell McFayden was named to the National Premier Soccer League’s East Conference Best XI on Friday, becoming the first FCB player to earn league honors at two positions.

McFayden, age 29, appeared as a forward this season - scoring a team-high six goals with one assist in NPSL regular season play. He also appeared in two friendlies - scoring a goal and adding an assist.

McFayden earned NPSL Best XI honors in 2015 under then head coach Brendan Murphy, though the skillful Medaille College product was a center back that season.

For his career, McFayden has a team record 18 goals with 3 assists in 38 appearances.

NPSL Playoffs - Cleveland SC at Erie Commodore FC - Friday, July 13 -

This is a shot in the dark but are there any fellow TiCats/CFL fans here? Do they have a following on this side of the Niagara River? Figuring some of the people here are from Southern Ontario so they may be fans.

Bullseye! I'm a fan of the CFL and yes, Hamilton is the team I root for. I try to watch their games weekly should ESPN decide to show them. More of a fan this year as before the season started I placed a $100,000 wager on them via the Sportsbook thing here to win the Grey Cup. Bet would have been alot lower - $25,000? but it was the night before the reset (everyone goes back to $25,000 in their account) and I had over $900,000 in my account. Since I didn't want to not use all that money, I put some high wagers on teams winning the World Cup (unfortunately not on France) some of the group stage World Cup matches (actually did well there) and of course $100,000 on Hamilton (I will know if thats a good one come November eh?) Hopefully they are at least in the finale - would love for the chance to win over $500,000. (The odds at the time were 550/100 - 5.50 - for them to win it) I have been picking them to win weekly too - although a small wager there. (Usually spend $10,000 for them to win the game and say $5,000 for them to win against the point spread if that part is listed.)

When I used to work at my uncles store, one of my fellow co-workers (Paul) mom was Canadian and she was born in the Hamilton area. She married an American and moved to the United States where Paul was born - so Paul is an American and unlike Tyler Myers but like Jason Pominville would play for the United States if he had to decided who to play hockey for. (We actually had that conversation one time!) They had relatives who still lived there and they had season tickets for Ti-Cats. For the time I worked there (2000-2005) plus a few years after, I attend at least one T-Cat home game every summer with Paul using his relatives season tickets. Unfortunately, the relatives got rid of their tickets so Paul and I stopped attending games. (And yes, since Paul had some Canadian blood in here - he was able to celebrate two Thanksgivings every year! Pissed me off because it made me have to work the evening shift on that Monday night in October - which sucked especially if the Sabres or the Yankees were playing that day!)
