AUGUST 2011 EDIT

I changed the title of this thread to cover JUST Fantasy Football as we already have a discussion thread. I have renewed HF Edmonton II and sent out invites to returning managers. I will open it up to new managers in a couple days once I give everyone from last year a chance to come back in. I have also created a new league, open to anyone here. This one is traditional structure and scoring, 12 teams, with a 3 week playoff (14-16) with 6 teams.

HF Edmonton
League ID: 691807
Password: rnhall

I also created a Survival Football group. You pick one winner each week, pretty simple. Invite anyone as there's no max.

HF Oilers
League ID: 14569
Password: rnhall

Edit: 2nd Draft - 3/12 spots taken as of Monday morning. Yahoo league #2 coming after this one is full.
http://freemeeting.0.football.sport.../4714/301584/095d6c8886530182bef7d7804003402f

This is the path to join the League that I set up on CBSsportsline.

16 teams, traditional scoring with a few minor tweaks (suggestions welcome).

I set the draft date for this Sunday (10th) at 8:30 PM MT. I think we'll fill it by then, and an early draft date ensures no one forgets. I plan to create another one in late August, probably through ESPN.

League ID#: 347715
League Name: HF Oilers

How long does a draft take? I start work at 2 pm(edmonton time)?? I'm interested If I can finish by then..
2 pm? The draft is at 8:30 PM.

I believe it's 90 seconds per pick max, it should skip (autopick) any no-shows, so it shouldn't take too long. Probably 30-45 minutes, no longer than an hour.

I've never actually played fantasy football before, but I'm a big fantasy baseball guy, and have been thinking about trying out football. I have some time to cram this particular weekend, so maybe this is a good league to start in? I'll take a look on yahoo, but I might as well ask what kind of stats I should be looking at, and if this is head to head or Rotisserie (is that even an option in football?)?

It is, but I've never played anything other than H2H in football, it's so realistic seeing as how football is played weekly and points are handed out in a loose mould of traditional scoring. Sundays are as close to a true game simulation as you can get, frantic action & scoreboard watching.

Here's the scoring, I'll be happy to answer any questions.

So with the one defensive player, you pretty much want to pick a guy on a good defensive team who will either get interceptions or sacks. Sounds easy enough. :walrus:

If it's your first time just let the site pick for you and then deal with the team during the year, you would be better off.

16 teams? ha never done anything close to that before.
Me neither, usually do 10 team leagues. It just means that drafting becomes more important than waiver steals. It might work out for the best, as usually whoever has the worst first two weeks ends up backing into a waiver stud or two.

I might do that, but I think I'll take a shot at doing it manually if I can. Time to get out the legal pad. BTW, I signed up as the Whippoorwills.

I would join up, because fantasy football has always totally interested me. Although, since Im relatively new here, ill wait a while and let vets take any remaining spots first.

If you want me in just let me know.

It's all even for everyone anyway, basically there is no waiver wire hehe.

So we should expect you to bomb fantasy hockey this year too, then?

I'm taking them both down anyway, I've already fixed it.

I'm still relatively new to fantasy. This is my third year I think.

Each time I've entered a new sport, I've done well.

2nd in two hockey pools. 1st last year in football. I'm currently in 4th in a baseball pool.

Then the sophomore slump hits...

Nice. Just trash talking, I'm relatively new to football as well and while I like to think I'm good at hockey, I know from previous drafts that you have more fantasy expertise than I. My experience is from Sportingnews.com (Smallworld), which has a very odd style.

Loved the Yahoo hockey last year, never going back. I plan to have a number of teams in that weekly H2H format.

I would give it a go. But i am sure there is someone else out there who would appreciate it much more than me. Since there is only so many spots, I will pass and let someone else play, since this is my first season following the NFL and I wouldn't really know what I was drafting anyways.

But I picked my team to be faithful too. You guessed it. The Miami Dolphins. My reason? Well if I pick them while they are literally the worst team in the league, no-one can ever call me a bandwagon fan :) Like all those Colts, Pats, and Cowboy fans out there :)

Good Luck Guys!!

I'm in. 3 spots left, get 'em before they're gone!

Question: I do not see the BN (bench) spots on my roster. Are they going to appear before the draft?
