On Friday, OpenAI's board fired CEO Sam Altman. Sam Altman was today hired to lead a new AI research team at Microsoft, and OpenAI employees are not happy:

Threat of OpenAI Staff Exodus Leaves Its Future Uncertain

This past winter, Microsoft invested some $10B in OpenAI, with the agreement that 75% of profits from the company go back to Microsoft until that investment is repaid. With OpenAI's future growth looking uncertain given this recent turmoil, that 75% profit going to Microsoft suddenly looks a lot more costly for OpenAI than it probably did at the time of the investment. A takeover could be on the horizon, unless the OpenAI board sees potential to keep up their astronomic growth.

Microsoft may suddenly be a new super power in the world of generative AI.

This would be a huge gain for MS. Apparently a bunch of employees are looking to jump ship to MS now.

And just like that, Sama is back as CEO of OpenAI, but with a new board.
More drama in 4 days than in 4 seasons of Succession.

f*** them. they did Sam very very dirty, so wrong! And then Sam goes and gets a job immediately with Microsoft. His fellow OpenAI colleagues were very angry about his dismissal, they wrote a letter to the board saying they would possibly split to go to Microsoft too. Good! Tear OpenAI down.

wait...wtf he is back with openai?

damn.
