Pretty sure each team does it differently. Don't know why this would be the captains job.

Here is my take. He is their tough guy/ defender of men.
Everyone goes on /off before him as a sign that he has their backs.
They always know he is behind them. It's as much for Matt as it is for the rest..part of the psych game
