Soderstrom might feel like he's going to be a Roadrunner for his entire career with us. He's RFA after this season. When does he become eligible to sign somewhere else? When do we lose his rights?

It's crazy Maccelli is still only 23. The young group we have in the league right now is bananas considering all the high picks we still have in the minors.

Not to mention how many of those picks are doing well. It really feels like a lot of these kids are going to be NHL players.

I'm so used to having one player to be excited about and only let down by that player in the end lol. This is good shit!

That really kinda looked like it coulda been the start of something.

2017-18 team? This season's group is better, and more importantly, what's in the pipeline/draft pick bonanza is much deeper.

I deleted some of the vets from this list, leaving essentially the core group of young guns. Keller is an old man now. :)

Doaner and his 2 pts per game average didn't make the cut.

In one fell swoop, Armstrong shed almost all of Ekman-Larsson’s supposedly immovable $8.25 million cap hit (the Coyotes retained 12 percent of the contract through 2028). That pleased the Alex Meruelo ownership group, but by completing the trade, Armstrong gained a commodity equally precious to him: a first-round pick. With that ninth overall selection, the Coyotes chose Guenther, whom The Athletic’s draft analyst, Corey Pronman, had ranked second on his final draft board.

“That was when the clouds cleared and the skies opened up and the sun started shining,” Armstrong said. “That was the true start of the rebuild.

It was a pretty complex trade, to be honest with you, but we worked piece by piece for a long time, and one of the huge pieces was getting the first-round pick where we chose Dylan.”

Emphasis at the bottom there for broken record Cobra. ;) :DD

Edit: Craig's a little confused as well - he mistakes Hepple for Hansch in the detail about the team's intel on Guenther.

The big difference isn't what's in the pipeline, it's that a pipeline actually exists. You can't just make a few picks and then act like the rebuild is over which is of course exactly what Chayka did (probably directive from Barroway). You have to know some of those picks won't reach their ceiling, some won't pan out at all, some will want out, etc. which is why you keep the pipeline flowing. If you do it right, the pipeline will slow itself down because suddenly your picks are in the 20's due to your success but if your teams on ice performance is still getting you top 10 picks...that means you absolutely still need them!

That's why I argue with some who are wanting to repeat that mistake and start trying to compete now via trades and free agents. It's a suckers bet, you need your pipeline to produce top end talent that proves itself in the NHL, until then you simply do not know what you have and you should keep assuming you need more top end talent. Once that top end talent actually produces top end stats in the NHL, then and only then, should you start considering filling in holes with trades and FA.

I’ve been saying for the last year that the rebuild began with that trade. Glad to get confirmation that Bill agrees.
I think there's only a few people who refuse to acknowledge that fact at this point. Some people like to act like the rebuild started the moment BA was hired but it's well known he basically spent that whole first season getting a lay of the land. The OEL trade was the harbinger!

Guenther is going to be a star. What a fine add he was with that pick. Huge fan of a lot of our guys, but something about Guenther strikes me as a 40+ goal scorer for many years.
He needs to be A guy, not THE guy as there will be other talented forwards in his age range. That’s a beautiful thing.

17th overall in league scoring with 226 GF
24th over all in goals against with 248 GA

Difference of -22

We need to address our defense heavily. We need a solid pair of shut down guys that can clear the front of the net and have a knack for clearing the puck out without icing it.

Keller - Cooley - Guenther
Maccelli - xx/hayton - Crouse
Carcone - bjug - doan
Mcbain - Kerfoot - xx

Moser - Durzi
XX - XX
Valimaki - kesserling

Ingram
Veg

Trade Schmaltz for defensive help

Court picks in a package to replace schmaltz

We need likely three external upgrades. Two on D and idelly another two scoring forwards.

Who makes the jump this coming year? Geekie? Soderstrom? No one in Tucson looks to be making the jump outside of Soderstrom or koly.

Isn’t that -18?
