I hate to break it to ya but you will still see the same threads over and over.

I think it looks great! Great idea too! I would add informational sites for both Phoenix and Scottsdale as well. I live in Glendale and even I know it's not all that exciting lol. Also, maybe some golf course info would be nice too. Otherwise, this is a great thread!

3 common spots for nightlife under 30

1. Tempe's Mill Ave on the ASU main Campus
2. Old Town Scottsdale and Downtown Scottsdale
3. Right outside the arena at Westgate where we have such bars as:
SaddleRanch YardHouse Mcfaddens Jim Buffets Margaretiaville.

Logging
I would recommend staying the Marriott at Sky Harbor on 44 st between Van Buren and McDowell roads with access to the 202 junctioning the 101 and interstate 10.

Most people will recommend to stay within 5 miles of the freeway preferably the loop 101 and interstate 10.

Culture
In my opinion the more away you travel from Phoenix the more Arizona culture you will find like the
Grand Caynon
Painted Desert
Anyone here want to help me with this one?

One more thing: Stay away from Maryvale especially along US 60 and Grand AVe as this is the most dangerous part of the valley unless you want to visit the Great Alaskan Bush Company!

Sigh, leave it to the Geology major...

Sedona, Flagstaff, Williams, Petrified forest N. P., Sunset Crater, Meteor Crater, Grand Canyon, Chiricahua N. M. (BIG recommendation if you have time!), If you want to see a zoo, don't see Phoenix zoo, but instead go to the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum, Saguaro National Monument, Lees Ferry, Lake Powell, Hoover Dam, etc...

I think that might cover it. Sorry if I went a bit overboard.

How much under thirty? For nightlife the two most obvious choices are probably Mill Avenue or Old Town Scottsdale. Mill Ave. is near the University. I'm sure you can imagine what that means. There are tons of bars you can walk to. The crowd is typically very young, though. Think fake IDs, backwards ball caps and flip flops. Old Town is little more adult. A little. Snottier, though. Think orange skin, fake boobs, and guys who gel their hair straight up towards the heavens. Obviously I'm over generalizing both locations, but those are the commonly accepted stereotypes. Scottsdale is closer to the arena than Tempe. Both are still pretty far from it, though, and I wouldn't base my decision on that.

Not to take too much away from the other wonderful areas you pointed out, but I'm a big fan of that place in particular. If you're going to trek all the way down to Tucson, the Pima Air & Space Museum is pretty neat and well worth seeing once.

Here is an old post of mine from a similar thread:

If you are going to the Grand Canyon (which I am not that big a fan of), you should check out Sedona and Flagstaff since they are going to be on your way anyway. They both present unique parts of Arizona that you might not expect.

Tombstone is very overrated. Old Tucson was pretty interesting before the fire, but it has really lost its luster.

If you are going to be starting in Tucson anyway, please check out the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum. It really is amazing. You should put aside several hours to spend there checking out all of the amazing things they have to offer in addition to the short drive from most of Tucson. My girlfriend had little appreciation for the Arizona desert until I took her there, now I cannot visit without taking her there. It is that interesting.

The Air & Space Museum is also pretty cool. They have a lot of different aircraft worth checking out including multiple B-52s, an F-14, multiple MiGs, an SR-71 and a previous Air Force 1. Those are just the big names, there are a lot more aircraft worth seeing.

Colossal Cave is cool if you have time. As well as Mount Lemmon.

While in Tucson, there are a lot of good spots to hang out if you link to drink. East of the University there are good spots on Speedway. There are also good spots downtown.

I am sure I am forgetting some good points of interest. I will try to reply if I remember any more.

Basically, there is a lot to see all over Arizona. It really is a lot more than a big, desolate desert with only Phoenix and its suburbs in the middle. I am often sad when I tell people I am going to be trekking about Arizona (which I do about once a year) and people expect I will only be visiting cities around Phoenix when in reality the only reason I bother with Phoenix is to see a hockey game.

If it's a weekend trip you might consider Friday night around Mill (Tempe and ASU), check out of there on Saturday and stay at the Renaissance right there at Westgate. Walk to the game and after hit any of the many bars there. Then stumble across the parking lot to your hotel.

Mill Street is more of a College Experience
Old Town Scottsdale is more of an "adult" experience.

Just depends upon your cup of tea, but there is twice as much going on evenings in Old Town.

That's true and it's not at the same time. There are grown up spots on Mill, too. Scottsdale is snootier, that's for sure. Even that's not really true. There are chill spots in Old Town, too. They are both bar districts. Most bar districts can kind of cater to all. Mill is more laid back, though. Even if you feel way too old to be there. Scottsdale is just so cheesy. I mean, if you don't know where you are going and are just kind of checking stuff out. Myst, PCL, Axis/Radius(whatever). Of course these aren't the only types of places in Old Town, but if you're just visiting, poking around, you could get the wrong idea. Sinurgy needs to re-post his bar review for Mr. Justice. I agreed with most of it, and I think most of the people I know would agree with most of it. Let's keep this nice midwesterner far away from the steroid muscles, fake boobs, silk shirts, bleached hair, rubber cemented spiked headed, yuppie scum in Scottsdale, and equally far away from the shaggy co-eds that rolled to the bar on their skateboards, fake IDs in hand, ready to throw up in the bar after two cocktails. Let's get him somewhere we're confident he won't get punched, and can be relatively sure the girl he's making out with is actually of age.

Plus the "attractive" ASU students actually hang out in Old Town never Mill. Like RT states, their are "snooty" places and non "snooty" places in Old Town. Unfortunately Mickie's Hangover closed and that was one of the less "snooty" places. A new cool place that is really a hybrid of everything is American Junkie in Old Town.
