Since he became a starter two years ago:

i.e. superstar numbers

He doesn’t have too many miles on him and they’ll have him through his prime. Easily the best contract of the day.

Ooooof.

Dude will be 29 when this deal kicks in.

It's very possible he'll still be decent, but I guess the Islanders don't consider their window to he open for more than 3, or 4 years.

It's not that bad, just ride him as long as you can and then buy him out like the rags did with Lundqvist.

One of the best moves of the day. Locking up one of the best young goalies in the game at 8.25 per when quality goaltenders are sparse in supply, equals an impactful signing here.

Other teams can now kiss the isles ball bag. Thought for sure we’d see $9.5+ for Sorokin. This helps teams with their goalies. Can’t see how Hellybyuck gets $9.5 he reportedly wants.

Yes, although he'll be 28 next month. He's not a young goalie. He's right in his prime.

That's more a semantical argument. Generally speaking in hockey terms they hit their peak years later than skaters do. 27 in Goalie years is young in my books. No one can predict health, but if he stays healthy, I would have little worry he will live up to his contract. His NHL miles have not been hard ones, and resigning Varly, ensures he won't be overly hard used.
