Is there an NMC? This is a sweetheart deal and does nothing but significantly increase Ekholm’s trade value if the Preds tear it down at the deadline. The guy is probably a #1 on half the teams in the league and is now locked in through the rest of his best years at an unbelievable AAV. Teams will pay through the nose for this. No more lame “but he’s just a rental” nonsense offers. A locked up Ekholm is worth a TON.

The contract he's playing under doesn't have a NMC or NTC. If Poile trades him after signing this deal that has a NMC that would be cold blooded. Like Paul Holmgren trading Jeff Carter + Mike Richards right before their NMCs kicked in.

This. I suspect he's going to be keeping the team at competitive levels while developing what kids we do have, and keeping an eye out for picks, but not selling the farm. He doesn't go scorched-earth unless explicitly ordered to do so. (No matter how much some of the Preds faithful might want it... )
