The reason I saw this is that last year the scoring started off hot as well in the first 50 or so games. Let's check what the scoring was like last year. 259 Games, 2.72 Goals per game. This year now. 266 Games, 2.98 Goals per game. I think the scoring strategies have changed. The save% average is, sure, the worst since the 2010 season, but it's still .911! I think instead of not even trying to shoot often enough is not good enough anymore. Teams need to attack instead of relax. This scoring is why steven stamkos and nikita kucherov already have 30 points barely 25% of the way through the season.
