Here's a reminder on how the system works. One Ratings Challenge marker will serve as the person you will send your challenges into. He will then rebuttal your challenge. Both your challenge and his rebuttal will then be sent to the Final judge who will look at the evidence from both sides and make a ruling based on this, with the process working more like an actual court room judgment. We've developed this process in order to make the ratings challenge ruling slightly more consistent and more democratic. This year we have three Ratings Challenge markers and one Final judge that will rule on every challenge except his own.

So here are your instructions:

Each team is going to get a maximum of 6 ratings challenges on a maximum of 5 players. OV can not be challenged. Goalie challenges will not be on the ranking that the skill ratings (SK, AG, RB, SC, HS, RT and PH) are based on. Instead of making a challenge on the OV rating, the challenge should be made on the position in the ranking (Ville will post the goaltender ratings order for reference). The other 6 goaltender ratings (DU, EN, SZ, PS, EX and LD) can be challenged like normal skater ratings.

Please make sure your ratings challenges are well researched and worthwhile. A successful ratings challenge is likely to be built around stats or scouting reports.

Your ratings challenge submission format should appear as follows"

Email Title: "HFNHL Ratings Challenge - Team Name"

1. Player Name
2. Rating being challenged
3. Current Rating
4. Suggested Rating
5. Reasoning or Argument for challenge (aka your proof)

The submission deadline for these challenges is going to be Sunday, October 19th at 11:59pm EST.

Please see the below list to figure out who you will be sending your challenges to.

Would the following teams Group A send their ratings challenges to Jeff Kirk at [email protected]:

Anaheim Ducks
Chicago Blackhawks
Colorado Avalanche
Columbus Blue Jackets
Detroit Red Wings
Los Angeles Kings
Nashville Predators
Pittsburgh Penguins
San Jose Sharks
St. Louis Blues

Would the following teams Group B send their ratings challenges to Tony Kapfenberger at [email protected]:

Calgary Flames
Carolina Hurricanes
Dallas Stars
Edmonton Oilers
Minnesota Wild
Philadelphia Flyers
Arizona Coyotes
Tampa Bay Lightning
Vancouver Canucks
Washington Capitals

Would the following teams Group C send their ratings challenges to Ville Isopaa at [email protected]:

Boston Bruins
Buffalo Sabres
Florida Panthers
Montreal Canadiens
New Jersey Devils
New York Islanders
New York Rangers
Ottawa Senators
Toronto Maple Leafs
Winnipeg Jets

Once again, Brock will be the Final judge for all teams except his own, which Jeff will take care of.

Once challenges are completed and final judgements are made we will begin our pre-season within a few days afterwards.

Any questions, feel free to post them in this thread.

The goalie ranking is based on the following stats: SV%, GAA, SO, Vezina votes, Wins and Minutes played. The stats used are from the 2013-14 and 2012-13 seasons with 70-30 weight on the seasons.

The goalies have been ranked in each of the stats above for an average ranking. Team defense has also been taken in to account, using total shots against for the teams the goalies played on.

Every position in the ranking equals an average 0,5 points in the skill ratings.

Instead of making a challenge on the OV rating, the challenge should be made on the position in the ranking

so if I understand this right, we are simply trying to argue why our guy is better than a higher ranked guy in an effort to move him up that list?

so as an example, if I feel Martin Jones (#23) is better than the Cam Talbot (#19), I can write up an essay why my guy is better and he may get moved up a spot or two?

just not sure how this system is supposed to work.

Same as before, but the challenge isn't on OV (all ratings). The challenge can be made as one challenge on the skill ratings (SK, AG, RB, SC, HS, RT and PH), or individually on the DU, EN, SZ, PS, EX and LD ratings. The skill ratings are based on the ranking, which is based on stats. If you think your goalie should be rated higher than another goalie, show why. "I think my guy is better than the other guy" is an opinoin, not an argument.

From my understanding, it means you can only challenge one skill at a time per player. I think there's a limit on how many challenges you can offer on one player as well.

In your example, if you feel Martin Jones is a better puck handler than some guys ranked above him.... perhaps you'd bring up the statistic of assists and say that your player has made some smart decisions moving the puck. If you think he's more durable perhaps find a stretch where he started four consecutive games and played well in them? Stuff like that. They want tangible stats that prove your point rather than just using the eye test.

This is always the key. There are various types of sources and information at a GM's disposal, but challenges depend on collecting evidence to advance the argument.

The other way around. You can challenge the skill ratings (SK, AG, RB, SC, HS, RT and PH) as one rating challenge based on the ranking of the

If you challenge the ranking, you challenge all the skill ratings combined in one challenge.

Can anyone help with those Corsi stats in the behind the net page, what we should check. If we want to challenge DF rating. SH TOI/g should not be only one stat and +/- does not tell anything alone.

Also is there a good stats for Goalies?
