I know that's more about the music but when it comes to those old anime-type openings JRPG's used to have I've always liked Suikoden 3 best:
The number of times I started that game up
just to hear that opening is innumerable and only matched by Christopher Tin's intro for Civilization IV.
That's the Konami series I miss the most...and it's not even close.
Speaking of the Civ IV introduction...for some reason it feels weird to be nostalgic about that one, but not certain others from that era. I think it's that my favorite video game music tends to sound like video game music, if you know what I mean. Baba Yetu felt like something grander...probably why it'd win a couple Grammys once attached to an album despite being made for a game. Deep personal shit with this one too, but this isn't the place to get into that.
