If Bergevin pulls this off he would raise the roof for all the fans that slaughtered him since the weber - Subban trade

and For Nj hell this organization will just have a hard time surviving this whole situation so this could really help them. Plus its not like they’re contenders or that Subban is a key player for them.

Its a different take like you said
What the hell are you talking about? NJ is in the top half in the league in franchise value (15th), revenue (11th), and operating income (15th).

The Devils generate more revenue than 5 of the 7 Canadian teams do according to Forbes. GTFO with this lazy nonsense.

As for the proposal - no, NJ doesn't need space and Subban, though not great, is still a contributing player. Alzner is role player in the AHL. They are not even close to being in the same ballpark.

I would love to have PK back in MTL playing on the second pair with Chariot.
Then we would have to trade Petry , first rd (between 15 and 10 picks) + B propsect.
PK fits in MTL , all QC love that guy.
NJ will have to pretty much give him away for a couple of 2rd or retain some $$ to get a better trade.

May players have negative value being on teams that are against the cap. Not NJ. They have no cap issue. If they are trading PK it’s for some actual value. They don’t need to trade him. He had one bad year and plenty of opportunity to bounce back next year

Heres a thought that i had last night:
Teams like NJ, FL, Car will have problems dealing with the current covid situation.

money problems

So they could unload heavy contracts for dirt cheap, is what i think. So a big trade that came to my mind is this one:

to NJ: Karl Alzner @ 4.6 m x 2 years, 2020 3rd round pick

to mtl: PK Suban @ 9 m x 2 years

Nj could buy back Alzner’s contract and save approximately 5.5 m per year versus Subban’s contract.
Mtl gets fan boy back! Gets Alzner’s contract off their hands for the same amount off years left. Adds without giving jack sh..
Some could argue why would Nj do that? Answer is simple: money
Who else in the league can take Subban’s contract and ego? Montreal

in theory... I find it an interesting thought. my first gut reaction is that theres too much bad blood between subban's personality and the traditional values of montreal to ever patch up past misgivings.

jersey wanting to make subban dissapear… I could see it. a buyout would cost them around that same 4.5 mill whatever... so its a thought that could potentially work.

the actual return would have to be more than a 3rd round pick. I think a more likely move would be something like subban to Toronto with 1/2 retained for dermott and kerfoot

it doesnt save jersey a lot of real dollars but it fills 2 roster spots with younger guys which effectively does save some money. Toronto gets a potential impact guy to potentially help them win-now which is where they are in the cycle... and Toronto is the one market in the entire nhl best suited for subban's unique personality. I would imagine subban would resign with Toronto to finish his career.

subban isnt worth 9 mill to anyone anymore {and never was to be honest} but at 1/2 retained he should have value... a lot more value than a 3rd round pick

What financial issues do you speak of? The Devils have some of the richest owners in the league....
Yeah its a dumb post! Not only a bunch of billionaires, but we have the most cap! Next year with flat cap we are in a great place to take on some contracts and get some stuff for it! This virus helps us, not hurts us (unfortunately).

See the thing is NJ probably has really rich owners but fact is they’re bottom 5 in the league for attendance. They’re not a contender team and won’t be for at least two years. So whats the point of keeping an overpaid veteran who doesn’t deliver?

i don’t think these rich owners got rich by throwing 4.5 mil a year down the toilet...
If they can save that much they’ll do it thrust me.;)

PK has not been great but he can likely still play top 4 minutes in the NHL. Alzner is a 2nd pairing AHL defenseman. This is horrible for New Jersey.

As a Rangers fan who hates saying nice things about NJ this is so accurate. Subban may be playing like a 4/5 right now and be badly overpaid, but it’s not like he’s become a #7 or borderline NHL player. His salary is rough. His play is rough because of what he once was. If he was paid like Ian Cole people would be happy with him.

Alzner’s done in the NHL, period. Subban actually could bounce back a bit and play like a #3/PP specialist... who knows how all this time off could effect him. As much as it clears money for NJ, I just cannot see them being remotely interested in a deal like this.

Part of the incentive was when they bought the team they got the building. It's a fact that we all know in jersey. They gave Simmonds five mil ffs, they have FU money for sure, trust me!

The Outer Limits.
Not so sure the Jets brass would agree with me as PK’s antics can put him on an immediate DO NOT ACQUIRE list, but I’d flirt with the idea if the cost was right (retention) Of course maybe the Devils wouldn’t even consider what I’d be comfortable offering.

Roslovic, Niku, Perreault (1 year left)

But like I said he’s probably not a TNSE type of player so increasing my offer is probably a moot point

The guy is a dressing room cancer. Habs got rid of him for that reason. Can't see them wanting him back even at that price.

It is horrible for Nj but for financial reasons they would love to pull the plug on him.

like i said there’s no other team then Mtl who would take him
The money isn't an issue for NJ though. They've got a ton of cap space. The 3rd isn't a reason to dump a top four defenseman for an AHL defenseman....

Stop trying time justify this comically bad and ill-informed proposal. It would be a lot better to just admit: “I made a few incorrect assumptions. My bad.”

Value aside, I dont know why Montreal does this. Their right side defense is one of their only places of strength with Weber and Petry, and then Fleury, Brook, Juulsen, etc. ready to hop in
