I do not disagree, but I would've thought that the Penguins market would have been able to get the game more than 1+ million considering they were on a very good winning streak and got back into the playoff spot by then.

In Canada they are way down. The demographics of Canada are rapidly changing and hockey is not nearly what it once was there.

Can you share those Canadian #'s, last years and this years to show the "way down."

I have very incomplete #'s, was just looking at last season of the couple month span I have some CAN #'s and Winnipeg Jets regional (TSN3) games beating some Toronto Raptors national broadcasts stood out.

Lot more people watch hockey in Canada than people realize. It's not just about the 2.5M for a Leafs-Canucks game on HNIC, it's the regional broadcasts that are night after night the most viewed sporting event in Canada and a majority of nights, by a significant margin.

It used to matter more a long time ago. It's not nothing and I share it as information when someone else mentions it or asks for it, but when I've posted #'s here or elsewhere, I had never included "demo" until last season when people would ask for it. Haven't bothered to do it since and never include it in the other places I talk about NHL viewership over many years. The full rating/HHs/avg viewership (avg viewership most interesting, to me) has always been more important, in my opinion. Tied to popularity, while the demo was for advertisers/business but that was more of a thing in the past, in my opinion.

Actually saw an interesting convo about it with the analytics guy at Fox Sports (there was a couple more comments but don't like to make long multiple tweet posts):

Disappointing numbers for the day. Thought NYI-NYR would be closer to 1.0M, SEA-DAL I was just hoping would stay above 700k. Neither did that.

Primetime, BOS-PIT, it's "poor" relative to the tripleheader primetime game last season (1.403M) but overall, of the 8 Saturday night ABC games over the past 3 seasons, which include the Stadium Series games, BOS-PIT is the 2nd most-viewed.

Amazing the impact that the University of Minnesota has on the game of college hockey. This year's final, between two bluebloods had only 55% of the viewership of last year's final between Minny and Quinnipiac.

They don't call it the state of hockey for nothing.
