Last night’s NHL opener between NY Rangers & Blackhawks delivered 0.77 overnight rtg, 2nd-best NHL regular-season game EVER on NBCSN.

Top 5 markets: Chicago (4.7), NY (2.4), Buffalo (2.0), Denver (0.95) & St. Louis (0.93).

By way of contrast:

Cubs-Pirates game drew a 5.5 overnight rating nationally on TBS: 21.8 rating in Chicago, 26.2 rating in Pittsburgh.

NBC got a bad break when the Cubs were assigned to the Wednesday time slot. Reality is you can watch a banner raising on tape and still enjoy it.

Wow Blackhawks got totally destroyed. Shows you how popular Baseball still is overall. Pens opening night won't come close either to the Pirates.

I'm also expecting the Blue Jays to crush the Maple Leafs very easily. Everyone I know in Toronto and here are watching the Jays

I was expecting much worse ratings for the Hawks due to the Cubs game. Wonder if that was for throughout the game or just the banner raising.

Exclusive or local blackouts?

Exclusive.:shakehead

The Wild/Avalanche NHL regular season game drew 268,000 viewers on NBCSN Thursday night, down 7% from the same matchup last year (287K) and down 17% from Kings/Wild in 2013 (322K). The telecast ranks as the least-watched on the second night of the season since the lockout campaign of 2013, when Blackhawks/Coyotes had 260,000.

The Cubs are a team that is more famous for losing than anything else. Their century of suckiness transcends sports. People that don't know anything about baseball know that the Cubs are the epitomy of suck. And they are in the playoffs... That's going to draw more viewers than a regular season hockey game every time. Shouldn't be a surprise.

Thist number is standard for Philadelphia Union. Very poor rating for one of the biggest hockey markets in USA.

you never see a peak rating in the first period of any hockey game. People were clearly upset and changed the channel. Had it been a close game, could have done like a 3-4 rating.

Detroit Red Wings

The Detroit Red Wings' 4-0 Opening Night win over the Toronto Maple Leafs Friday night saw a 56-percent increase in viewership over last season's home opener.

FOX Sports Detroit, simulcast with WJBK, had an 8.7 household average, peaking at 9:15 p.m. with a 10.17 household average.

Friday's game was the highest-rated season and home opener for at least the last 10 years on any network. The previous high was a 6.5 HH for the 2013-14 season and home opener on NBCSN
