Kakko would be prime target for Kotkaniemi type offer sheet (one year at 4 million for Habs’ second rounder) so if Rangers can get better value in trade (and acquiring team gets to sign him to a better contract), there is basis for a transaction.

It is suboptimal to offersheet when you are rebuilding, you give up high picks. E.g giving up 33OA is almost giving a 1st. You need cap space and the ability to contend.
For me right now, NSH PIT CAR are the teams which could make a 3m O/S for a Kakko / Sandin type player

Agreed. The exception would be offer sheets below $2.1M that do not require compensation, which would work only if the other team was disappointed in the player and did not want to go forward at much more than the QO amount they gave.
For example, the Habs could lose Rem Pitlick for nothing if they are not willing to match an offer sheet of up to $2.1M, but more than their QO which is under $1M.

Pretty sure HuGo said that they're not trying to trade Josh but if someone offers something crazy, they might consider it.

We are in a rebuild, I love Anderson, great leader, great for kids, but if you can get a top 15 pick or a quality young asset, you do it.

As others have said, it isn't about wanting to - its about his value potentially being higher in a trade for the future build than what he will be when it matters to the Habs.

It's not "wanting to trade Anderson" just to get rid of him. But at this moment, he is one of the more valuable players Habs have. And if the Habs want to get back into the Top-10, he may have to be part of the trade.
But him having term also benefits the Habs because they don't need to rush a trade with him. Same with Petry.
I love Anderson. But I’m sure his contract will be terrible in 3 years when we’re ready to contend again. If the price is right, I’d pull the trigger
