I think they're just cracking down during the preseason to let the players know that they need to chill with the hand whacking. They'll probably be less strict about it later on in the season. However, if they do keep calling it and the players learn to adapt, offensive play could be more exciting if less slashing leads to better execution.

Crosby takes a dudes finger off, so instead of dealing with the offender, they generalize everyone. Happens at work all the time. Instead of punishing the lazy employee who doesn't do their job and takes 2 hour long breaks, they make everyone go into the board room and discuss break times and work productivity.

There was also that game where Johhny Gaudreau got slashed like 25 times. So if we're gonna blame anybody, blame the Wilds for being dumb *****.


Every star player deals with a ton of uncalled slashes all the time and it wasn't strange for Thornton to exaggerate a slash or two to get a call.
