ive also been thinking, theres only like 2-3 defensemen consistently ranked 1st round, but the chances of only 2-3 being taken first round are small imo. I think we will have a better choice of forwards than we think

Aside from Ekblad/Fleury, I had Dallas taking Honka, San Jose taking Sanheim, and LA taking McKeown. (Actually had Dallas and San Jose swapping spots since San Jose trading up at the Draft pretty much happens every year)

DeAngelo is a wild card and could conceivably be taken on Friday; Ditto with Thatcher Demko.

I suppose I won't be the only one quietly pumping my fist when D get taken :)

Craig gave us Jakub Vrana at 30.

That's within the realm of possibility. The Kings seemingly have had the best luck with OHL draftees and their head amateur scout is stationed in Toronto. It's actually kinda funny looking at their recent draft history: OHL [Simmonds/Doughty/Clifford/Toffoli/Pearson] vs other [Hickey/Teubert/Forbort/Gibson]

Based off of what's going on twitter I'm gonna say there's a 0% chance Ho-Sang is there when we pick. Really would like to move out second and an asset to get him. Kids going to be a star

He could go 1st round but probably won't last until we pick at #41 - same with DeAngelo. If we get a solid pick at #30, I'd take a flyer of either of these two depending upon who else is on the board. if there's another high ceiling potential guy (forward) that happened to drop a bit it would be a safer bet.

While I think we all would prefer forwards, if d'Angelo is there at 41, you gotta take him, I think he'd be awesome paired with Santini or Severson in the future...

Patrick O'Sullivan all over again. I will go off the board and say he isn't picked in the top 45.

Brendan Lemieux = Patrick O'Sullivan?

I'm scared to see what happens if the Devils draft a Dman with 30 or 41.

as much as I dislike DeAngelo's personality, he would be a good pickup at 41. but my based love for Hawryluk at 41 is too strong :P

Considering the Devils recent success drafting D and lack of success elsewhere, I don't think that would be such a bad thing. The most important thing is that they add guys who will be assets to the organization 3 years from now. Doesn't matter if it's on the Devils roster or as a trade chip for someone else that can help the team.

Wouldn't stun me to see Honka or McKeown picked at 30 either (don't ask me why). Honka is a threat to go earlier though.

I think JMI was comparing Ho-Sang to O'Sullivan (not Lemeiux).

Afro, if Isaac meant Angelo(or Ho-Sang), he really needs to start quoting who he's replying to. I got confused because up till this point, it was about Brendan which is why I thought he was still on him as the subject, not DeAngelo(or Ho-Sang).

It's closer to four hours. I usually have to extend the DVR recording by an hour (default is 3) in order to get the whole thing. I have pictures from the 2010 and 2011 Drafts and the timestamp for Rickard Rakell (30th overall) was four hours and three minutes from the start of the draft. Timestamp for my picture of Charlie Coyle (28th overall) was three hours and 43 minutes into that Draft.

There is a chance that things are sped up. The biggest speed bumps are usually TSN interviewing all of the Canadian teams' first round picks. 2011 was especially bad with 11 first round picks by Canadian clubs.

Just heard some great info on Sonny Milano and Nick Schmaltz on NHL radio. They talked about their speed, hockey sense, and toughness. When they got done I wanted one of them tho it looks like Milano will be long gone by the time we draft.

I wonder how many of these guys raved about actually make it to the NHL?

I found Jim's post interesting, some of his picks. I don't recall ever picking someone I think the Devils would pick cause I always almost never research the prospects before we pick. This year is the first year I even bothered to look and I just like Ho-sang and Lemieux.

This should help answer your question.

The top three overall picks are almost guaranteed to become good contributors at the NHL level. 4-7 is 50/50 to become a top player, 8-13 is 40%, 14-25 is 30%, and 26-50 is 15%.

After that the odds get pretty bad to get a good player.

The draft is my favorite time of the year. I love thinking about what direction is your favorite team going to go in. The trades, the rumors, all very exciting. In my mind NJ has to go for a offensively talented player, i would prefer a forward. A lot of people have said Lemieux and I can totally Lou doing that. With that being said I think that Ho-Sang has a higher ceiling offensively but the potential the extra bagage is also higher. I would have loved to be a fly on the wall in his interviews with Lou and other teams. It would have been interesting to see his answers and where all this negativity is coming from.

One/ two more days...can t wait.
