NHLPA proposal includes: 3 year deal; player option for 4th reverting back to current CBA.

-Artificial slowing of salary growth. Ward: year 1 will increase by 2%,year 2 by 4% and in year 3 by 6%.If Revenue growth exceeds 10%,anything over 10% is subject to 57% that exists under present system.
-Grange: -players get $1.89B for 3 yrs; owners keep bulk of rev growth from that period. Revenue sharing up; hard cap stays.

Some info via Brooks:

-NHLPA has also proposed extra draft picks for teams in financial trouble that could be used, traded or sold, Post has learned...
-PA also has proposed that NHL establish a limit on non-player spending by teams.

Previewing Tuesday's meeting (and the other two days this week). Fehr talking about counter offer.

"We've asked for a bunch of additional financial information," Fehr said at an NHLPA charity golf tournament at Milton, Ontario. "They've indicated that the preparation is in progress and we'll need to review that before we come to any final conclusions."

As negotiations with the NHL resumed Tuesday, NHLPA executive director Donald Fehr indicated that the union was getting close to responding to the league’s initial proposal, which included a decreased share of hockey-related revenue, term limits on contracts and a 22 per cent salary rollback.

“I doubt that it will be weeks, plural,†said Fehr. “But could it be two? Yeah. It could be two. It could be less.â€

The sides will continue talks in Toronto on Wednesday and Thursday and are scheduled to get right back at it next week with sessions in New York on Monday and Tuesday.

Today's recap

The NHL Players' Association made a number of presentations to owners Thursday, including ones addressing pensions, training camp and ice conditions.

Mathieu Schneider, special assistant to NHLPA executive director Don Fehr, says the two sides were involved in collective discussion and also broke into smaller groups.

"Today was another good day," said the former NHL defenceman. "I think we had a lot of good, open discussion and it was certainly one of the days where we had a lot of player involvement and to me that's the most important thing."

Schneider adds that benefits have not been updated since the 1990s, while training camp issues include the schedule, player testing and the amount of pre-season games in which veterans would be expected to participate.

"There are a lot of these issues (where) we have the same common goal," Schneider said. "It's (about) coming to agreement and how we get to that goal and that's a lot of what happened today."

NHL commissioner Gary Bettman says both sides want the same thing on a number of the issues discussed Thursday.

"On things relative to the game such as ice conditions, we all want the best ice possible," Bettman said. "These were really more discussion points than anything else at this stage."
...
The players say they are waiting for specific financial information from the owners before submitting a counter-proposal.

Next meeting: Monday (7/30) in NYC.

NHL's recap of Tuesday.

"They have asked for an exhaustive amount of information," Commissioner Bettman said. "We think they have plenty of financial information. They've had it on an ongoing basis as a union for years; but, having said that, we are doing our best to comply with all of their requests for information -- whether or not we think they are relevant, as quickly as possible.

"But, as you can understand, if we have produced 76,000 pages in a short period of time and we're gathering it from the 30 clubs and the League office, there is a lot of work to do in a short period of time."

Fehr said the PA has just begun to digest the information the NHL produced Monday.
...
In the negotiating session Tuesday, The NHL was represented by Commissioner Bettman, Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly, Senior V.P. of Player Safety and Hockey Operations Brendan Shanahan, Boston Bruins owner Jeremy Jacobs, Minnesota Wild owner Craig Leipold, Washington Capitals owner Ted Leonsis, Toronto Maple Leafs President and General Manager Brian Burke, Carolina Hurricanes President and General Manager Jim Rutherford, and legal counsel.

The NHLPA was represented by Fehr, Special Counsel Steve Fehr, General Counsel Don Zavello, Special Assistant to the Executive Director Mathieu Schneider, Director of Operations Alex Dagg, and 11 players: Craig Adams (Penguins), Dan Cleary (Red Wings), B.J. Crombeen (Lightning), Mathieu Darche (unrestricted free agent), Shawn Horcoff (Oilers), Steve Montador (Blackhawks), George Parros (Panthers), Cory Schneider (Canucks), Kevin Westgarth (Kings), Ryan Whitney (Oilers) and Keith Yandle (Coyotes).
