Not me. I don't do twitter (or facebook, or the comments on youtube).

View attachment 685091

Me neither. The only time I even log on to Facebook is when I need to sell something quickly (which is like twice a year). My Twitter use is limited to seeing tweets embedded elsewhere, or very occasionally searching Twitter for a keyword for some reason. Otherwise I don't even touch those platforms anymore.

Quality of life goes up very significantly after unplugging from that crap.

Something worth thinking about, and it's been brought up before, is how Rod's coaching style affects the players.

If I'm not mistaken, our most successful season(s) under RBA have been shortened seasons. And when those seasons ended prematurely, the players would have played around 80-82 games by that point.

So maybe there's just a "wall" that the players either can't or won't break through with RBA's coaching style.
Been thinking about this a lot. I have followed pro cycling for most of my life. It’s similar to hockey in that it is an endurance sport to a degree. Pro cyclists must focus training and lead up events so as to peak for the event that is their primary focus. Peak too soon and you crash before you get the prize. Obviously Patches and Svech going down was a killer blow. But still ,in stead of stepping up it’s like they gave up. The rest of the team is missing the punch we had, Our guys go at it so hard during the year with so many games. I’m in the “they are just outta gas “ camp . Not sure what to do about it but we really need some players that know where the back of the net is.

This also isnt the first time we've run out of gas. We always seem to hit a wall and fall off.

So we've become That Fanbase...?

Never wanted to be That Fanbase.

We still have a few more stages of evolution to go.

1. Quirky fanbase born from years of watching lovable losers
2. Pure unhinged fun during return to contention
3. Peak Bandwagon
4. Intense anxiety about Missing Our Window <--- You are here
5. Contempt for anything other than Winning Stanley Cups
6. Decline begins; half the fanbase disappears
7. The Great Depression
8. Quirky fanbase born from years of watching lovable losers

As Whalers fans, we never got past stage 1.

Yeah, that could happen.

This April, ESPN is preparing for the 2023 Stanley Cup Playoffs with a variety of marketing activations that will get fans ready for one of the greatest professional tournaments in sports.

The postseason puck officially drops April 17, and ESPN is commemorating the postseason with a new Stanley Cup Anthem “Yeah, That Could Happen” that highlights the competitive balance across the NHL and reinforces that anything is possible during playoff hockey.

The spot features numerous Stanley Cup contending teams such as the Boston Bruins, Colorado Avalanche, Carolina Hurricanes, and stars like Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid and Toronto Maple Leafs forward Auston Matthews, among others, with Hot Chocolate’s ‘Every 1’s a Winner’ as the soundtrack for the campaign.

ZAMBONI® MACHINES IN THE CITY
Hockey fans in New York and Boston will recognize a familiar vehicle roaming the city streets during the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. ESPN has outfitted double decker buses with Zamboni® ice resurfacing machine skins in these cities to celebrate the postseason being back for fans across the country.

STANLEY CUP TOUR
The trophy with the social media handle @StanleyCup is set for an ABC and ESPN Tour with stops across network shows that began April 8 and continue throughout the month.

  • ABC Hockey Saturday: April 8
  • KayRod Alt-Cast: April 16
  • Good Morning America: April 17
  • Get Up! & First Take: April 17
  • Disneyland: April 29-30
“The Stanley Cup Playoffs are one of the best stretches on the sports calendar in any given time,” said Emeka Ofodile, Vice President, Sport Marketing, ESPN. “From our NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs Anthem to a double-decker Zamboni bus activation, and a multi-city tour of one of the most prestigious trophies in sports, we are ready for fans to get hyped for playoff hockey.”

Dom’s latest update to his projections has us as less likely to win the Cup (4%) than the Florida Panthers (5%). Oof.

Whatever. It's all noise at this point. We're in the playoffs. Win tomorrow and we've got home ice for the entire run unless we hit the Bruins. And once you're in the playoffs, it's a whole new season. It's a mental reset and an injection of fresh energy and predictions go out the window.

Agreed. More a comment on how the projections have caught up to the eye test. Losing Svech probably hurts us quite a bit in the model too.

This doesn't reflect very well on the old regime, not gonna lie... one man's perspective of course. Dude was only 32 years old.

Surprised me because I don't recall any rumblings about Wisniewski skating again or having any chance of coming back.

I guess they wanted to avoid Wisniewski reinjuring himself, making a buyout impossible?

Played in Europe afterwards, IIRC, and from what I remember hearing, looked substantially slower. Looked at Wiki, and apparently he split time the next season between Europe and the Chicago Wolves on an AHL only contract. It ain't like teams don't scout the AHL, if he was worth an NHL contract at that point one of 30 teams would have thrown the dice on him.

Oh, and the Wolves didn't re-sign him. He wound up playing in the 2nd tier of the German league.

So yeah, totally Francis's fault...
