Per Chip Alexander - "Canes looking at PP unit of JStaal, Nestrasil, Terry, Murphy and Liles."

Sounds about right for the 30th ranked PP in the NHL. Gosh that just sounds like an awful combo for the power player.

 Brindy, who runs the PP, is probably like "**** it, I've tried using all of our supposedly good players and it's resulted in the 30th ranked PP in the league. Time to throw a few scrubs in there and see what happens."

Canes have 2 pp goals this year by someone not named Justin Faulk. Pathetic.

What indication is there that that will work better than Terry, Nestrasil, etc? It's not like most of those guys have been very productive lately.

Hell, put Malone out there and tell him to stick in front of the net. He's about the only one on the team who will.

Which explains why we always end up picking 5-8.

you could argue that being very bad but not the worst is worse on fans than being the actual worst. there have been just enough mid-season turnarounds, just enough glimmers of hope, for the organization to avoid blowing it all up. as a result, we don't get the the attention of being Buffalo or Edmonton bad that comes with media scrutiny/organizational pressure and top draft picks. instead we're left waiting for the inevitable rebuild...stuck in "retooling" purgatory...

There are many hockey levels of hell.

Such a worthy thread title. I've personally sacrificed a fifth of Wild Turkey to this season. Here's hoping that sacrifice won't be in vain.

I think it's safe to say we're rebuilding now...

And rebuilding for Edmonton hasn't worked very well...We want to rebuild more like Buffalo.

The Canes seem to be a lot like Edmonton in that they've built a strong prospect pool at one position while the other aspect of the team has diddly poo. Unfortunately for the Canes you need a lot more forwards than defenseman so they still are pretty far behind.

On the flipside, if you have a very strong defense and can find a competent goaltender, you can at least be competitive, even with substandard forwards (see Nashville over the years).

That is true, too bad they don't have w competent goaltender either. I guess that's why you throw darts at em in the draft every year though until you hit on 1.
